Who shoots 240gr SMK's in 10 twist successfully?

Re: Who shoots 240gr SMK's in 10 twist successfully?

I have in the past just to mess around with them in my 300WM but I found the 208/210 worked better for me in that caliber. The 240s worked fine and stabilized without a problem in my 10 twist. Just didn't get the velocity i wanted.

Thanks Rob,

doing a hunting gun, and while I like the .300 RUM case I did not like its barrel burning abnility.............place a 240gr pill in there and your shooting a fair bit less powder and that might change things a bit there.

Mostly set on .300 winnie or 30/375 ruger but still tossing garound various ideas.

1:10 Lilja, 27 3/4"

300 mag
Win 1xfired brass
WLRM primer
240 grain SMK, COAL 3.54
67.6 grains RE22
Temp was 89 with a gazillion % humidity
5-shot group accuracy about 1/2" (kinda ragged) at 100

Oehler 35 printer spit out the following:
2711
2708
2708
2708
2710
Which gave this.........
M=2709
ES=3
SD=1.41.

1:10 Bartlien 25"

30-06 Spr
Win 1xfired brass
210m primer
240smk @ 3.30 OAL
58 and 59 grains of RL25
1500 ft asl 93* temp

58 - 5 rounds
2553
2554
2571
2572
2577

59 - 5 rounds
2592
2594
2590
2587
2607

Groups were the 58 gr (5 rounds = .359) and the 59 gr (5 rounds = .752 w/ .261 of vertical. I pushed two to the left on this one. Two in one cluster and 3 in a little cloverleaf, the 3 measured .209) I blame improper trigger squeeze on the two to the left.

I'm still doing load development but no pressure signs were found yet. I will likely load up some more tonight and shoot them out at 200 and 300 tomorrow
