Heres a question though, I built all my 1911's. 2 meet the criteria of std barrel etc etc but they are not production guns. Are they disqualified for being "customs"?

No, they're not disqualified. So long as they meet the requirements for the division you wish to shoot, you can use a custom gun in USPSA or IDPA.
Basically, they need to make weight, be 1911s, and not have any radical modification like slide lightening to be legal for both USPSA and IDPA. You will see them in Single Stack division USPSA, IDPA's Custom Defensive Pistol, and occassionally, with race holsters and 10 round mags, a 1911 can be used effectively in USPSA Limited-10 division.
