Why Replace a Factory Bolt Shroud?

I've got a fairly new Tikka T3X A1 in 6.5CM, and I recently replaced the bolt handle with an aftermarket unit from Glades Armory.

In the process, I notice several companies selling replacement bolt shrouds....one of Lumley's goes for almost $100 in titanium.

I'm not unhappy with the plastic shroud that came on my Tikka and have other things to spend my $$ on rather than replace it.

But, I am curious why one should consider replacing the original with an aftermarket product that while it might be of better construction, serves the same purpose?

Thanks,

George

I can't answer your question about performance, but I am not a fan of plastic components on my rifles. I'm sure you don't need titanium and there are probably less pricey options out there.

you will find....especially in the gun industry.....that there are many "upgrades" that dont do anything but lighten your wallet.

Glock back plates for instance.

just because someone realease an "upgrade" doesnt mean you have to put it on your rifle.

always ask yourself "what issues am i having with my rifle, and how can i fix this"......THEN look for the mod to fix it.
