Why the hesitation to install the M16 style extractor on my 700 308?

I have an older model 700/308 / VSSF. I have wanted the Sako style extractor installed and 2 Gun shops have discouraged such work! One being GA Precision...!!!

Any one want to hazard a guess as to why?

I've seen the Youtube video showing the difference and I certainly prefer the more positive extraction ability of the Sako style vs the Rem style...!!!

While I can't speak to the hesitation in installing one on your rifle, I can say that I view spending money on something totally unnecessary to the proper function of my rifle as a waste.

Re: Why the hesitation to install ...

A while back (seems like this comes up every now and again) there was a good thread on this with several board gunsmiths weighing in on this. As I recall none of them had a positive reason to do this.

Good luck

you ask about two entirely different aftermarket extractors.....the m-16 style is the one to do if you must.....have a real reason to to this....really.

Re: Why the hesitation to install ...

There are a couple of reasons that came up in the thread mentioned about this.

#1 Ejection, the ejector is in the wrong place in relation to the extractor and brass will hit scope or some combo to end up back in the port. PTG bolts and I think Stiller bolts make up for this by moving the Ejector to the right place to overcome this issue.

#2 3 rings of steel thing,

#3 why bother, the Remington extractor 95% of the time works like a champ,

Pass - spend the money on extra ammo.

Just replacing the extractor on my M700 rifle. Action has fired approximately 12,000 rounds. Replacing with another Remington factory extractor.

Good luck
