Ok today i sighted my new remington 700 5-r, trijicon accupoint scope with leupold rings and base and an atlas bipod. for 200m shooting was fine was getting 1-2 inch groups which is about as good as ive ever done before this i zeroed it in to 50m clovered, 100 most touching with a few outliers and 150 at about 1-2inch groups. after this i tried 300m but my scope wouldnt wind any further than 4.5moa i wound it backwards and found that it could go down over 30moa. any ideas on what to do or whats causing this or what to ive never had any issues like this before and im relativly new to shooting F class

Re: wierd thing with scope

If you installed a base with a taper ensure you have it facing the right direction. If you have no base installed you might want to look at installing a 20MOA base for it.

Re: wierd thing with scope

Are you running a one piece base or two piece? If its a two piece ensure you've got the short action version rather than long action. Other than that check ring alignment.

Re: wierd thing with scope

Btw ive been eyeing off a slanted base, was looking at the murphy presicion scope rings and base. Should i use this as an excuse to get them, with this scope ill need a sloped rail at some time anyway

Re: wierd thing with scope

Get a 20 moa base, Murphy would be fine. This will get you going but it still depends on the range of adjustment. You may end up replacing your optic. I would pick up a 20 moa base it should give you 20 minutes more adjustment.

Just put a straight edge over the bases, you'll quickly be able to see if they are in alignment.

If I was you use it as an excuse to get a one piece 20 MOA rail

Re: wierd thing with scope

One thing you'll find, is that the Trijicon scope doesn't have a whole lot of adjustment range either, so you'll need a 20moa base.

Re: wierd thing with scope

measured both the base and the top of the scope with my grandpas carpenter level. Didnt need it in the end, once i leveled my rifle i could visibly see that it wasnt flat. Bit of a pity since i got a bloke at the local gunshop to put it on thinking he do a better job than i could. Ill get it straightened up for now but i think a 20 moa murphy base rings would be the way to go.
