Its powerful.
So was the funeral at Arlington.
RIP Captain Michael S. Diogo. Fighter and bomber pilot WWII and Korea.
Since I hate being late I was about 45 minutes early. Followed the GPS to 100 Carpenter Rd as instructed, and asked for the Old Chapel. The guard gave me directions so I spend 10 minutes winding through the cemetery not knowing its also a military base. I get to a check point and all these suits ooze out ith big bulges under their coats and ask me what the hell Im doing there. I tell them Im here for my friends funeral, wheres the chapel. Theya bout shit and tell me I cant cross there Im on restricted area and have to go back to go through security. So I wind back around and finally get to the security gate where, because one of Mike's daughters had made some stupid remarks and threats, they tear everybody apart. Finally get to the chapel on time and they have a nice short ceremony. We all follow the horse drawn (biggest horses Ive seen) caisson to the grave sight where there is another short ceremony, a 21 gun salute, and taps.
Then since we're there we do the tour. It is quite humbling. Rows and rows of white stones all in perfect alignment. 2, 3 and a few 4 star headstones all over the place. Stopped for the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Interesting how they were chosen. From each war several 'unknown caskets' were exhumed and a Medal of Honor recipient picked an anonymous one to fill the spot. Interestingly enough there is no one in the Viet Nam tomb as his remains were Id'd by DNA.
If you get the chance do this.
