The MTM can withstand a moderate amount of recoil. Just like a sedan can effectively drive somewhat offroad. It was not designed to do that. WTM is with additional buffers built around the sensitive electronics. Just as the Tans have better recoil protection than the regular Black (2nd hand info) and the older MTM's have better endurance than the newer V2's with the trade off the the V2s are cheaper and have upgraded LED's. Good luck. If you want your thermal to last awhile...I suggest avoid putting it in situations and environments it was not built to withstand.
