Hey guys, brand new here and looking for a little advice!

I've just purchased a Savage 10FCP McMillan(A5) and a few trimmings to go along with it. On top will sit a 20moa rail, and an optic with a 50mm objective lens diameter.

Looking around, I'm thinking I may purchase IOR heavy duty 30mm rings. The low rings say they're .250''. That seems pretty small to me. What are your thoughts? Will it fit?

And if I do end up going with IOR, do you suggest lapping?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Will these rings fit?

I would say no, this is my basis, Badgers low ring is .823 and Leupolds is .84, now these work with a 40MM scope but would not be enough for a 50MM unless your base is real high.

Do the rings need to be lapped? will depend on if they are true or not.

Re: Will these rings fit?

It looks like IOR measures from the top of the rail to the bottom of the scope tube. Fifteen mm = .591" + .250" = .841" rail to tube C/L.

Badger std rings are .823" and work fine mounting a Mk4 6.5-20 x 50 onto Rem 5R with a 20 MOA rail. Enough clearence for the Butler Creek caps.

Lapping is never a bad idea.

You know, I was wondering if the measured differently from other manufacturers. Thanks for noting that in your post.

Perhaps I'll be ok with the low rings. I definitely want the OL as close to the barrel as possible.

If it helps, the optic is a Bushnell Elite Tac 6500 6-24x50.

Can lapping change the clearance specifications inside the rings so that it wont properly clamp to the scope tube? I work in an automotive facility that houses a state of the art body shop.. If I cant find the right size tube and some good compound, I'm in trouble. But again, I want to make sure it's OK to do, and in fact suggested.

Btw what do you guys think of IOR rings?

Re: Will these rings fit?

Midway has Wheeler lapping & alignment kits on sale now for $37.99. That's a pretty good deal.

Using the correct diameter lapping bar you won't take off enough material to change the clearence enough to make a difference. That is unless you spend several days lapping.
