Gunsmithing Winchester 70 pillar bedding

So I got a kit to bed my Winchester but have a question.

The 1 piece floor plate is very tight in the stock, should I remove the surrounding material so it isn't
Touching the stock? And then bed it with some masking tape on the edges after the pillar job.

I am of the opinion that so long as the thing isn't rocking/flexing when you torque up the screws, there's nothing to be gained by bedding it. I moved away from this practice a long time ago and it's made life a whole lot easier.

I am hoping that's the case. But both of my previous stocks(wood&plastic) allowed movement, so I need something.
