I went to the range today (finally after just over a month of lousy weather), it was a steamy (compared to what we've had) 54 degrees with a nice 12-15mph steady crosswind. I was working on the .308 loads, but brought the .22 since i've put a new 20moa base on it, and had to get it zeroed. Since I had the chrono already setup, I decided that I would finally run some rounds over it to see how they stack up.

String #1 (10rds SK Standard Plus)
Avg 1006fps
ES 99.7
SD 28.2

String #2 (10rds SK Standard Plus)
Avg 1005fps
ES 83.5
SD 28.5

String #3 (10rds Wolf Match Target)
Avg 995
ES 78
SD 29

String #4 (10rds Wolf Match Target)
Avg 997
ES 73
SD 23

The rifle was a Savage Mark II BV. I was rather shocked, and dissapointed in the results, however it would explain my verticle stringing at 200 yards, which I expected anyway, I was hoping for ES' in the 50's rather than what they are.

I'd like to get my hands on some Eley match stuff and try that out, we'll see what I can get together over the next several months, hope you guys find this interesting stuff, and perhaps useful.

Re: Wolf MT and SK SP Chrono results

If you didn't know, SK Std+ and Wolf MT are the exact same ammunition. Both made by SK, on the same machines, just packaged differently. Any difference in velocity is lot to lot variation. The velocities you're getting seem a bit slower than what I have gotten, on average, with my Savage MKIIBV, which is about 1050fps.

Re: Wolf MT and SK SP Chrono results

i ran a bunch of ammo through the chronograph awhile back,

22 ammo thru a mkII part 1 50 yards

in the same ball park as the OP's results through a MKIIBV. since then have used the sk, and my results also showed that seemed that the sk was a little quicker, both in the sk plus and sk match when compared to the wolf target and wolf extra.

i don't remember what the advertised FPS was for each of the ammos, however i do remember it wasn't close on most of them. it may be that they used a longer barrel to do their FPS tests.

anyway, it goes to show the value of having a chrony, that is if you take your shooting seriously.

the FPS will also vary a little when you start weighing the ammo and breaking them into your own "lots". one weight will usually shoot quicker / slower and will also be a little more / less accurate.

Re: Wolf MT and SK SP Chrono results

Thanks for posting this information up.

That is a bit disappointing. I was hoping this stuff was the end all be all for .22lr. I've heard good things about Eley from a friend. I'll have to give that a shot too.

EDIT: Slap my momma, that's some expensive .22lr. Wow. $15 for a box of 50?

Re: Wolf MT and SK SP Chrono results

If you want really good, not good enough, look at top of the line Eley, or RWS (what Anschutz uses for their accuracy testing-that says a little right there).

........then realize that for 22 precision rifle training WolfMT and SK SP fill the bill quite nicely and ALOT of either could be bought with the cost difference in just one case of the really really good stuff.
