Gunsmithing Wood stock needs refinished - easy and good product to remove the finish/varnish and not damage the checkering?

Is there an easy and good product to remove the finish/varnish and not damage the checkering?

If I can't find a way for me to do it, I have a pre-81 BLR and I may want the wood professionally refinished.

Who does that?

citri-strip, or really any other paint remover shouldnt harm the wood any.

use a stiff nylon brush to help scrub out the checkering.

I second that, I've used that same setup many times. Use mineral spirits to remove stripper residue.

Same. Restored a lot of Browning Auto-5's using the citrus stripping solution, nylon tooth brush on the checkering and plastic scraper for the wide open areas.
