I've done some research on what my first bolt action should be and I believe im set on the Remington 700 xcr tactical long range .308. Its my first person rifle but im not really new to shooting since I've done two tours in afgan as a SAW gunner in the infantry. Ill be using it for target shooting trying to get to 1000 yrds and a little hunting.

I know there are better rifles but I gut need a solid, reliable rifle that wont let me down. Is this a good choice?

I hope so. I also had some questions about what scope to mount in it. I've seen the Leopold mark 4 that our DM rifles, the M11 and M12, have on them and I like it but is it able to make corrections for 1000 yrds? Im thinking to spend about a grand give or take a few hundred on one. Id like one with tactical mils and one that will last.

Whatever scope you put on it just make sure the turrets and reticles match. The rifle will be a shooter unless something's wrong with it. You could always go with AAC model and get a XLR chassis for it. Then it's already threaded go when you decide you want a suppressor for it.

I could but the xcr already has that trynite coating and the 40x trigger. I thing threading the barrel would be less than doing those two thing.
