Ok I'm finshing my little girls AR and I'm looking at my next build. I need you guys to fight this out for me. 308 vs 6x47 Lapua. I reload so that's not a problem. Please fight so I can see why I would pick one over the other. I got my popcorn and today is slow so have fun.

No I was wanting to keep it in the 308 or 6x47', I love the 243 but it's for my wife and little girl and they might want to schwack a moose. And yes, lots of butter

Re: WWUD? The next build!

6x47 less recoil for beginners to deal with, plus you have more room for error on your wind calls since it does better in the wind with heavies. i run 115 dtacs in mine at 2950 and my buddy get 3050fps out of his.

Or you could just do what i did and build a switch barrel and let them deciede. get an action with abuilt in recoil lug, like a win. 70, surgeon 591, bat, and just switch the barrels yourself. best of both worlds.

Re: WWUD? The next build!

Just did the same thing, except 260 and 6x47. Went with a 6XC. 7grns less powder than a 243 same performance. Gets you to 1K with heavy bullets. I went with an 8 twist broughton and had it throated for 95-105gr bullets. Brass can be made from 22-250 up to 308 easy. Formed brass is pretty cheap. Dies are the same price. Lapua brass for the 6x47 is expensive and hard to come by at times. If you gotta have the small primer pocket Lapua makes 308 Palma brass. Smaller case capcity should eliminate all the ignition problems in cold weather that have been reported. Now pass the popcorn, while I wait on parts.

The 6x47L and the 6XC are very close in capacity like 2 grains and almost ballistic twins. Unless you were taking a 6x222mag(6x47) then the 308 all the way with reduced recoil loads until the can handle full house loads
