How are you guys with tuned Remington x-mark pro triggers on you GAP builds liking them??

I had severe hesitation to use this trigger on my new hunting build after all the horror stories I've read on this site and many more. I wanted to use a Rem 40x trigger on this build, but GAP has none left to offer.

George in an email, told me not to buy into the "internet legend" about x-mak pro triggers. He stated they have had no problems with them after they're properly tuned and installed on their builds, so I went with his expetise.

To be honest, I really have an itch to use a Jewell trigger on this build. Not because of "internet legend" of the x mark pro, but because I have never used or even tried a Jewell & have heard great things about them. On the other hand, heard that Jewells have had their problems too...........

i played with Jacob Bynum of Rifles Only 300 win mag that had a XMark worked over by George and it was by far the best trigger that i have ever felt in my life. Better than Jewell, Rifle Basix, Timney, Shilen.

You've been jerking the wrong jewell triggers

William, i do respectfully disagree. It was light as hell, set at about 2 lbs but felt like a couple ounces. The Jewels are nice just not my cup of tea.

It's OK to disagree. If a trigger is adjusted right and the sear engagements are clean, sharp and polished it'll break like fine china and 2Lbs will feel like it's under 1Lb. Jacobs Xmark was no doubt "Right"

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

I have no doubt that if GAP allows it out of the shop, it will be tuned correctly.

However I have a bad taste in my mouth regarding the Xmark. I don't like the feel of the slim smooth trigger and I don't trust the creeping pull weight I had.

If I was having a custom built I would request an old school 700 or 40x trigger.

We just got three new LTRs in with the "adjustable" Xmark, so I am waiting to see how those work out.

LoneWolf,

Like I said in my original post, I wanted a Rem 40x trigger, but GAP has used their supply up. They had no "old school" 700 triggers either.

Like you said though, GAP won't let a shitty trigger go out on their custom builds.

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

I took the X-Mark from my 700 SPS-V and fine-stoned the sear engagement surfaces just enough to polish them. I ued a soldering iron and a 1/16 allen wrench to loosen the overtravel and engagement screws. Alot of trial and error and I got it right at about 2.5# and pretty crisp.

I ended up replacing it with an old-style 40X trigger I got from GB and adjusted to a very crisp 2.5#. I MUCH prefer the wider shoe of the old triggers.

Maybe George forgets that we are not all world class gunsmiths. There is no internet legend, the X-Mark triggers are really hit or miss, and seem to be bad more frequently than thy are good. That's not to say they can't be fixed, it's just saying that they typically suck from the factory.

That being said, I'd rather just spend a little coin on an aftermarket trigger that I can adjust easily than pay for someone to tune an xmark which I wouldn't be able to adjust in the future. just my .02.

When the dirt and grit works in there you are going to have fun.

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

I had my x-mark tuned by a local smith here and it's been consistent to what we tuned it to.

He did it for free because he's a friend so pricewise hard to beat.

I would however say between the x-mark, the Rifle Basix and the Timney I've played with I'd probably take either the Timney or the Rifle Basix if money was no factor.

Never touched a Jewell or CG Jackson so not sure how those stack up.

Since I never had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the old school Rem trigger like most here I honestly don't have a preference between that and the X-mark.

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

I have a X-Mark that I had my smith tune, I had him set it at 3lbs as I use the rifle for hunting and some bench... It breaks super clean, and feels great...

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

I was hesitant when I first realized my GAP had a "tuned" x mark trigger. that feeling evaporated when I got to shoot with it. still working through the initial break in but it does feel better than another jewell i have, and better than the last Timmney I installed. Only thing better at this point is a old Rem 700 trigger on a friends sendero, IMHO nothing comes close to that trigger.

Re: X-Mark Pro triggers on your GAP rifles - thoughts?

The X-Mark trigger can be tuned to a consistent and clean sub-2 pound break. Though I still don't like the smooth trigger face. I prefer the old M700 trigger, but the X-Mark can be made quite acceptable and durable.
