I have an XLR Evo, and it is most certainly an excellent stock. With XLR's side folding unit, the rifle is quite a bit shorter for transportation, and should fit in a 36" soft case. My issue is that with the stock folded to the left and the bolt sticking out to the right, the rifle is really fat. So fat that many cases don't have enough depth to zip closed. Trying to put it in a backpack yields similar results, the shape is too awkward, no flat surface to lay against the back of the pack.

Does anyone know of a solution to this challenge? Can the folder be rotated 180 and another buffer-compatible stock used that will clear the bolt handle? I really don't want to take the bolt out and keep it separate.... I'm bound to loose it at some point, or miss a quick shot because I'm fumbling around trying to get the bolt in and the gun in service.

Idk about the xlr folding adapter but i used a mdt folding adapter abs was able to rotate ut to fold to the right. Based off what i see with xlr i don't see why it couldn't do the same.

The xlr stock will lay flat but you have to open the bolt and pull it to the rear. You can get one of them plugr safety chamber flags with the bungee then just put it in and bungee there bolt forward so it will also hold the stock closed.

Worked for me when i used my xlr.

I would give XLR a call. They have excellent customer service. Im sure they could give you the best answer.
I personally just kept the bolt seperate. I know you said you'd rather not. But i just used one of those jumbo "industrial grade" rubber bands to hold it to the forend of the rifle while it was in the case and it worked great.

Yea, you can install the folder "backwards", so it's folds to the right. I do this with my XLR. Leave the bolt in, but in its up position. It's still kinda fat, but the bolt when it's up is just a little bit shorter than the cheekpiece on the folder, so the gun is only as wide as the folded stock and however far your scope parallax/illume knob sticks out on the left.
Do be aware that the hinge part of the folder will be about where your thumb would want to rest if you don't wrap your thumb around the grip.
If your cheekpiece doesn't work with the bolt in the up position, you might be able to open the bolt completely and fit it that way.
