Got an XLR chassis coming, as well as a Leupold Mark 4 ERT 50mm objective.

Anyone suggest a proper ring height? Something that will allow for Butler Creek flip caps.

Thanx!

Re: XLR Chassis / scope ring question

With a Vortex PST I ran the Vortex high rings, 1.26 from base to center of tube. Easily enough clearance for BC caps. I am actually gonna sell them if interested.

Re: XLR Chassis / scope ring question

Depends on action and base height. Xlr has a formula on his site that will get u lined out. My tikka t3 tac with integral base when the formula was used said i needed a 1.30" ring. I used a bo unimount that is 1.4" &20 moa cant. The scope cleared but i had to grind on the bc cap to make it clear the tube. Plus the forend flexes just a hair when loading the bipod so take that into account. I beleive his formula doesn't take into account any leway, so when u measure the obj bell to put in the formula make sure u have the bc cap on it when u measure it.

If it has a cheekpiece, you might as well treat it like an AR platform. Run extra high rings. I had a HD XLR and my Badger highs with were too low, had to buy the ex-highs.

Good point.

And it is a Rem 700 action.

Pretty much. Each manu. has their own idea of high vs. extra high, etc. I found the Badger xtra highs to be more height than needed yet the highs were not quite enough. Vortex and Seekins even list them differently even though Seekins makes all of them. Vortex calls their tallest rings "high" while Seekins calls the same height rings "xtra high."

Re: XLR Chassis / scope ring question

I had to run the Burris XTR's in high because of the forearm on the Evolution. Not a huge deal, that is what the adjustable cheek piece is for. That was with a Savage 10 action and a 4-16x50 PST.
