Guys I have been researching for awhile and read almost every post and watched the you tube vids. They all seam so simple to do on a 700. Then I pulled the action and barrel off the FN SPR and looked over the MCM A1 stock. No room for pillars on the pre 64 action w/ DBM in this stock. So how far down the stock does the bedding material go. Just to where the barrel seats on the action or three inches down the stock in the barrel channel?

Re: Yet another bedding question

To the recoil lug and not under the barrel chamber.
Some people do 1 1/2" forward of the recoil lug and under the barrel.
I have done a couple and NOT under the barrel and have had great results.
Good Luck.

Re: Yet another bedding question

I take and wrap the first 2 inches of the barrel with 2-3 rounds of tape.Put tape around the front and sides of the recoil lug.The tape is to give clearance enough to take your action out of stock a little easier when done. The tape on the barrel just keeps the bedding off of the bareel when finished.Make sure and put modeling clay in all holes. And don`t forget your releasing agent.I use devcon for bedding and turtle wax for releasing agent. Some like pledge because you can spray it on.Good luck!

I've bedded more Pre 64 Winchesters than I can remember. I just did one here recently on the FN action.

There's always room for a pillar. If not, your using the wrong pillar.
