Zermatt Origin or Defiance Classic

I only have experience with zermatt. They are great actions. And they do have the best customer service in the game.

Think about the features you want, the big difference between these two actions is one is push feed and one is Control round feed.

Also take a look at the impact 707 action.

Noob here. I did a quick Google on push feed vs CRF. It appears the Origin is the latter. In practical terms for long range shooting and PRS, what are the trade-offs? Thank you!

I've had multiple zermatt and defiance actions. Currently own a tl3 and a rebranded deviant. I'll take the tl3 over the deviant any day. Same for the origin over the classic.

Swap bolt heads (for 150 instead of 350 to 400) and barrels whenever you want. CRF/ME action let's you run any case length you want (I love 6br).

Zermatt just plain works.

*full disclosure: I actually like ARC better than both but you didn't list them.

I say go with anything from Zermatt, I’ve been running an origin since its release in like 2018 and it’s never let me down. The only issue I’ve ever had was bending the threaded stud that attaches the bolt handle to the bolt body, granted I literally had to beat the bolt open with a lump hammer due to a unsized case getting jammed in the chamber. I ran the rest of the match without a hiccup and eventually replaced the extractor at the end of the season just for a piece of mind after I was sitting in the spare parts kit.

I’ve also been running a RimX since its introduction and a TL3 since 2019, both having a ton of rounds through them without any issues.

In my opinion for PRS and range shooting there’s no tradeoffs they will both feed and eject brass as designed. I have actions with both and i honestly could care less about the feeding and ejection style. I just want it to work.

Building a 308 on a AI AX short action chassis. Which one would you choose? Price is about the same. Worth it over a stock Remington 700 action?
Yes, worth it over the R700. I’d go Origin between those two.

For barely more than an Origin you can grab a Kelbly Prometheus. And if you go down the rabbit hole, a little more than the Kelbly for an Impact, Fuzion, Ruckus, Zeus, etc.

None with the Zermatt. The older traditional CRF wouldn’t let you single feed without possibly damaging the bolt but you can with an Origin as they are designed to be able to single feed also.

OP get the Origin.
