Re: Zero Dark Thirty goggles question
you came out of the gate swinging....
But here.
QUADEYE is designed around four, advanced, 16mm, image-intensifier tubes. Its modular construction permits the user to select between using only the two inner channels or four panoramic channels. Additionally, QUADEYE® provides for projection of avionics head up display symbology or the aircraft’s targeting sensor’s video image into the goggle’s eyepiece through a high-resolution display.
Developed from the IPNVG, the AN/AVS-10(V) WFOVNVG features a partially overlapping 95° × 40° (H × V) intensified FoV, where the central 40° of the horizontal field is binocular, while the flanking 27.5° portions are only seen by the corresponding eye. In development examples of the system, when viewing the outside scene through the WFOVNVG, a thin demarcation line separating the binocular image from the flanking monocular peripheral images could be seen, although subsequent optical development has minimised this effect. The WFOVNVG outboard combination eyepieces are fixed and non-focusing. The WFOVNVG also incorporates a fixed dioptre, necessitated by the non-circular nature of the left and right FoV. In order to achieve satisfactory visual performance for the widest possible range of aircrew, studies in the US identified a 'standard' dioptre setting of -1.0 which has been projected to be suitable for the vast majority of serving US airmen without need for additional corrective optics.
