This sounds like you changed muzzle devices, as opposed to simply removing, cleaning, and re-attaching a muzzle device? Am I reading that wrong? If just removing, cleaning and re-attaching, id be shocked if there was any shift. Cleaning a heavily fouled can(heavier than clean) would cause a shift.

Rough weekend.

I meant removeing a muzzle device like a brake, cleaning, reattaching.

When I did my can, it was attached to the same muzzle device (QD FH/Brake), now I shooting brakes for competition and my 6mm need a lot more cleaning, so if i remove the Area 419 brake, clean it, re-attach, what kind of shift is expected.
 
Shouldn't see much at all unless you screw up clocking your ST brake. That doesn't guarantee you will see zero shift though.

A good rule of thumb for when you mess with *anything* is to shoot a round or two to verify zero. Otherwise you have a much higher probability of being able to share a 'one that got away' story... or becoming a member of the "add another tenth" club.

I don't like removing and replacing muzzle devices routinely, especially those with fine 28 or 32 thread pitches.
Subject to stretching enough that it'll fuck up the timing when torqued down.
I'll clean the carbon off the brake and crown with shop swabs, and if I run into hard to remove shit, I'll hang the rifle upside down with the muzzle in a small cup of solvent.
