Moving to austin tx area

hello,
I am an avid gun lover from Utah, my job got moved to central Austin and i will be needing to move near there.
id prefer not to be in the middle of the city and i am interested in any advice as to where i might find a good environment to move to.
when i first heard I needed to move to Texas i was quite relived but i see that democrats from commiefornia are doing similar things to your great state.

i've seen a lot about the liberal democrat controlled area of austin and would prefer to live outside of austin and commute in.

any advice anyone can give would be most appreciated as I have to be down there by beginning of next month

i would also like to hear about any good ranges out there as ill be needing some good places to go.

appreciate the assistance

SOLD Volquartsen Summit 22lr w/ Bartlein Barrel

Finally got this from the smith after a year wait but have no need to hang on to it.

Volquartsen Summit aluminum receiver
Bartlein SS rimfire barrel, finished @ 20”
Mcree chassis with XLR buttstock
Kidd 2 stage trigger 8oz/8oz
Bushnell Engage 3-12x MOA
Nightforce Rings

The action and first inch of barrel are bedded to the chassis, very snug fit. My smith did drill and tap a hole through the top of the receiver so he could play with clocking the barrel before cutting the extractor grooves.

Ran some Eley ammo (Match, Target, and Tenex), SK ammo (Long Range and Match) through it. I haven’t shot in over 2 years so I don’t think I am doing the rifle justice. It shot everything fairly well, have some targets for you to make up your mind. Tenex was the most consistent of the ammo used as far as grouping.

I have some of the ammo for a price for the buyer if they want it.

$1250 shipped for the rifle and scope from me to your dealer.

Marks on scope tube. Do I need to address?

Hey all,
Just noticed some marks on the outside of my scope tube that are down to bare aluminum. From a cosmetic stand point I could give a rats ass because battle scars for the win! However, should I be concerned about the bare metal from a corrosion stand point, etc? Not trying to over think anything but don't want to ignore a potential problem if I can nip it in the bud. Thanks for the advice.

Double barrel shotgun brands - your recommendations or warnings...

Hey everyone, I have got a hankering for a double barreled shotgun. It would just be used at the range or in the woods. I am looking for any experience (recommendations or warnings) you have. Price would be under $1500ish.

I have tried looking at the cowboy action forum, but it's a jumbled mess.

What I have gleaned is a Stoeger is an ok entry rifle, but those that use it a lot say you tend to have to just throw it away after 4 or 5 years due to various parts breakage.

Cz whitetail is ok, but sometimes Turkish made guns have some issues...

Any experiences you have had would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

Warning: Chronograph issues

This is just a warning to those who (like me) might put too much faith in their cheap Caldwell Ballistic Precision chronograph. You might say "well obviously it's a cheap POS based on the price" but I have trusted it for many years and it was good enough that I didn't really notice a major issue. Maybe others also have this issue with other chronographs as well, I don't have any experience with anything else.

Basically it detects different velocities based on where in the "detection area" I shoot, based on my point of aim. If I aim at a target which goes through the upper portion of the chronograph, that group will show a pretty good SD/ES. I then shoot the same exact load/rifle combo at a different part of the same target, which might go through the lower portion of the chronograph, and that group will also show similar SD/ES BUT a very different average velocity.

For example:
Group 1 shot at top left of target
2555 ft/s AVG
23 STDEV
51 ES

Group 2 shot at middle of target
2600 ft/s AVG
23 STDEV
56 ES

Group 3 shot at bottom right of target
2502 ft/s AVG
12 STDEV
31 ES

Calculating all groups together as one data set
2552 ft/s AVG
47 STDEV
152 ES

You can see that within each group, the SD/ES is pretty consistent. Taking all velocity values of the 3 groups and doing the math as one set of data makes the load look awful. I can shoot 5, 10, or 20 shots at the same point of impact and get similar average velocities. As soon as I change point of aim (bullet crosses chronograph at a different location) I get a shift in velocity.

Waiting for the Caldwell VelociRadar to be released before I decide whether I want one of those or a Labradar.

Looks like a nothier piece of the puzzle is falling into place.

The Biblical Apocalypse speaks of the war kicking off somewhere in the mid east with armies of thousands and thousands of thousands (millions). The actual phrasing depends upon the version you choose. Some say two hundred million. Consider the article below, and the locations on the map below that. If the Taliban take Afghanistan, and its almost certain they will, they will consolidate their base of operation. They are certainly in sympathy with the million or so Uyghurs the Chinese are abusing not far from them. If they stir up shit in china then the Chinese push westward to stop it, and perhaps even be the next foolish regime to invade Astan it could unite the Islamic peoples against them. Then there is the oil...

So millions headed westward towards the oilfields is certainly going to bring a massive response and the Chinese can field 1,000,000 soldiers.

Things are looking up. Glad Im old and feeble cause I aint going nowhere to fight nobody.

School me on light weight ARs

Looking for a project and was thinking of an ultra lightweight AR. Thinking Faxon 14.5" Pencil barrel, titanium parts, carbon fiber handguard. Where I have questions is with the buffer and gas system. Do you need an adjustable gas system? With a lighter bolt do you need a lighter buffer? going to be a carbine stock and carbine gas system, I am looking for a durable light weight bolt? who do you recommend?

Critical Race Theory

Just about every leftist article you read starts by saying that CRT “is difficult to define”. This is a bald faced lie. CRT is as idiotically simple as it is idiotic. Victor Hansen does a good job of explaining that CRT is just plain old racism in a new wrapper, but I think this article captures how insidious it is and how fused with totalitarianism/Marxism it is.

Rear support for bolt action rifle?

Hi All,
I handload 338 lapua and take great care to make every bullet very precise. However, when I go out to range to test groups, I am never able to keep the back portion of rifle stable enough to my satisfaction. I generally shoot while lying down on a shooting mat. Have tried bench as well but that seems even more unstable. Are there any recommended rear shooting bags or rests that you can recommend? Only need somethign for load development. I think I am stable enough for combat accuracy, but need better stability while testing loads. Maybe it is just my excessive weight and unfit body, but am sure there are better solutions out there which I am not probably aware about. thanks for you time and assistance.

Vudoo V22 360 Trigger Install Questions

I’ve searched and read what I could find, but I’m still left with a couple of questions regarding trigger install on a Vudoo V22 360:
  • Are the trigger pin holes directional? (and if so how are directions identified? i.e. is “right” the ejection port side? or…?)
  • Are the trigger pins supplied with a barreled action tapered, and therefore also directional? Or just a slight chamfer on the end that’s supposed to go in first?
I read where the pins are supposed to “slide in”, at least to the trigger assembly, after which you are supposed to tap them the rest of the way in. Mine most-definitely do not “slide in”. I was able to get them barely started with hand pressure: front from the ejection port (“right…?”) side, and rear from the other (“left…?”) side, after which I had to drive them with a brass punch and hammer. I’m hoping I didn’t do something backwards and screw something up.

Need help tracking a satellite

So I was out last night looking at the moon with my spotting scope.
Got a black spec crossing the moon at 9:19pm. View was from Mathis Texas.
Looked at a few websites but I don't see a way to look up history of what went over.
We see satellites all the time here, but this was super cool because it was an accident catching it on video.

I sent the video from my iphone to my computer, but it gets grainey and fuzzy so its not worth putting on here.

Thanks in advance if you can give any help.
