Lets see your USMC M40-M40A6!!!

Needing clarification for an A6

-Is there a specific model of Harris bipod?

-I see that the Larue mount is very hard to find in civilian hands, anybody have one they dont need or whats the next closest?

-For the scope, was NF used or is the S&B really the only "accepted" scope for an A6?

Thanks!

The new Nightforce P-VPS MILSPEC 7-35X56 F1 that you can get from Europtic has also been spotted on one as well making it useable for a clone but it will never be listed in the official deployment kit just like the Mod7 ATACR 5-25×56 F1 Milspecs that were also spotted in use.

Although also not an issued item, I personally recommend the badger (low profile harris mount RACS) adapter. It will not be removable without an allen wrench but it makes the bipod rock solid.

I might have skipped over this history, but why did USMC go from a 25’’ to 20’’ barrel?

What was their explanation ?

Do they now feel like short barrel and long suppressor is better/easier to use in field?

XM-3 was research project, looked at 20in + supressed format rifles.

Yes.

But they went from M40A3/5 with 25’’ to M40A6/7 with 20’’.

The XM-3 was dead at arrival it seems. Its 18.5’’ barrel showed it had lethality at some range..

But they wanted a more compact (folding buttstock) rifle and accepted a 20’’ barrel as sufficient for the ranges their snipers would expect to engage.

So 25’’ barrel was just a hangover from old days, and took time to change?

Anybody remeber in their heads what the 5’’ of extra barrel gained in MIL Wind/Drop at 1000yards?

My M40s shoot nearly 150fps faster than my xm3 with M118LR. Thats 6.5” difference in barrel length going from 18.5 to 25”. Also surprisingly my xm3 with 18.5” barrel shoots almost identical to my A6 with a 20” barrel. The hart barrel seems to be a fast tube or maybe I just go lucky

MARSOC A3 finally complete

I spoke with Gary about this and although there was sufficient data to do more changes to the barrel and prove it was better, the powers that be, if I recall correctly, were 4 officers and they “Didn’t want to do to much deviating” from what they’d had decades of experience with. The twist rate alone took some hemming and hawing, apparently.
