Interesting mag and configuration…

Loach pilot, probably late ‘60’s or early ‘70’s. Pic from random Facebook posting.

IMG_8046.jpeg

Some are saying this was a 30 round mag that some of the SF and aviation guys bought mail order from US. 30 round at mags. I know they have been available, if not issued.

Some are saying that these were “field conversions,” putting an AR feed lips on an AK mag to increase capacity (which seems unlikely as AR mags are aluminum and AK mags were steel (and some Bakelite/polymer).

Any insights? Also interesting Grenade launcher configuration. Like an early 203.

Anything you recognize? Or built?

And I considered it might be an AI image… but looks more like an old Kodachrome.

Cheers, Sirhr

Suggestions on “decent” but low cost binoculars?

What the title asked. Just looking for some reasonable low cost 10x binoculars on the smaller side. Everything I see that’s low cost is fragile junk. And I remember when I was a kid (I’m 40 now) low cost tasco’s were alright so long as you didn’t just drop them on concrete but now everything low cost seems like pure junk.

Double Standard

Daniel Penny was attacked by a lunatic on a subway and defended himself and saved others in the process. His actions resulted in the death of the suspect. The media was painting him as a vigilante.

Karmelo Anthony was sitting in the team tent of the opposing team in Frisco and one of the players, Austin Metcalf told him he was in the wrong tent. So, Karmelo puts his hand in the bag he was carrying and says "put hands on me and find out what happens."

Austin touched him and then grabbed a bit more firmly to move him out of the tent. Karmelo pulled out a knife and stabbed Austin in the heart. He died there, in the stands, in his twin brother's arms.

Today, his bail was reduced to $250K and people were happy about that.

To cap it off, Daniel Penny, who is white, gets labeled a vigilante from protecting himself with his bare hands (arms, actually) from a crazed black attacker.

Karmelo brings a knife to an athletic event and purposely seeks out the team tent of the opposing team and decides to sit there and not move when asked to leave. Karmelo is black and stabs Austin, who is white, and kills him.

Admits it to police, too.

And people are happy that he is released.

Firearms Clearing out the gun room SALE

Selling the majority of the stuff I have accumulated over the years. Bear with me on shipping as I do my best to get stuff out within 1-2 days but sometimes my job dictates otherwise. I’ll keep you in the loop regardless.

I’m going to start with the guns and then will move onto ammo if it doesn’t sell with the guns, and then reloading and accessories after that. I’ll get stuff posted as I have time. There will be lots of FREE stuff posted in another ad as well like I’ve done in the past.

Whittling my safe down to just a couple firearms so I’m pretty much set on trades. I would take a stcatto XC or Wilson project 1 on trade (can add cash where needed). Always open to high end mil/mil optics.

Suppressors SOLVED - New to cans - by far my biggest surprise has been...

Thanks (??) to @Rob01 and my adult son, I've been led into the world of suppressors. Nothing unexpected until...

... I discovered the SMELL.

After the first outing with son's new suppressor and it cooled off, we unscrewed it and put it back in its plastic box. Later, at my house, I took it out of the box and immediately noticed a sharp odor... what is that?.... sniffed the hub end of the can... yowza, the ammonia smell was VERY potent and burned my nose.

I got my own can (Rugged Alaskan 360) a couple weeks later, I found the same thing: Massive ammonia smell, after shooting ammo with a variety of single-base and double-base powders. I never smelled ammonia before in 60+ years of shooting shotgun, pistol, and rifle.

With his suppressor on a Tavor bullpup, he said the ammonia-laden gas wafting out of the action under his chin made him wheeze a bit.

This isn't a gripe. Just an observation. Surprised me quite a bit; I'd never heard of this before. And I'm aware that breathing this stuff as was happening with the Tavor is not a good thing.

SOLD Defiance Tenacity 2.0

Purchased action new from local dealer. Built for Nomad Precision by Defiance and badged as so. Has approximately 85 rounds on it. 308 bolt face. Has trigger pins. Shipped and insured to your FFL. PP F&F or Venmoe. Offered in lower 48 excluding Alaska and Hawaii. $875.00

EDIT - This action HAS THE INTEGRAL RECOIL LUG - I know the some of the 2.0's were a pinned lug in the beginning if I'm not mistaken. The scope base mounts with screws.

1st Suppressor / 1st Day Out (HUXWRX FLOW Range 36 Ti)

I once shot a half dozen rounds from a buddy’s bolt gun with a popular can from 10 years ago. I think it was a Gen1 RPR. I was blown away with the amount of suppression and have been pining for one ever since. Beyond that I have zero experience firing suppressed. A few months ago, I put out an inquiry for suggestions, and thank you for the responses :

https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...k-pressure-30cal-can-so-many-choices.7244768/

I went with the new HUXWRX 36ti in the hopes of getting it my on M76 and M49, optimistic that the newer flow-through design would behave well on them as well as other semi milsurps. This was an interesting experience. I had three hosts to revolve through today. I shot five round groups before and after and observed peculiar (to me), inconsistent results between rifles:

RPR in .308
  • This is a sub MOA gun when I do my part with the ammo it likes (168gr FGM)
  • When suppressed it’s PoI shifted 3.5” down x 1.5” left
  • Report was a fairly sharp, loud snap but does not ring the ears

RAR in 7.62x39
  • This is a 1.25” gun with best performing ammo, so far being Rommy surplus :-/
  • PoI shift was 2.5” straight up with no drift in windage
  • Report was a pleasant sharp snap

LAR8 Elite Operator (basically Rock River’s AR10 pattern from 10 years ago)
  • I fired a string with it’s Vortex flash hider and got about 2+” group using XM80 Lake City, 150gr “ball”
  • I then fired a string, bare-muzzle (w/o the Smith Ent, “Vortex”) and got abou 1.5” group (THAT was a surprise)
  • Next, I fired five rounds with the 36ti and got the same 1.5” group with literally NO PoI shift (huh?)
  • Report was quite a loud crack+POW that would almost ring my ear.
  • Perhaps not hearing damaging loud BUT not nearly the amount of suppression as the .308 bolt gun. Is this to be expected?

All in all, I was pleased with the performance on the two bolt guns. From what I’ve read I believe a traditional baffled can would be even quieter on bolt guns. Yes?

Takeaway/questions:
  • Is it typical for such a PoI shift with vs. w/o the can.
    • Strange that the .308 RPR would shift down and to the left whereas the x39 RAR would shift straight up.
  • While I need to do further testing it’s also interesting/revealing that after all these years the Vortex flash hider unbeknownst to me, may have been hindering accuracy on the LAR8
    • Why no PoI shift on the AR10 ?
  • AND why I this semi-auto vs. the bolt guns so much louder. Typical? Moving parts and places for gasses/sound to escape?

Thank you for taking to time to review this and offer any contributive insights.

Man attempts to burn down PA Governor’s Mansion

Surprised no one’s posted anything about this one yet. A guy broke into the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion with a Molotov he made out of lawnmower gas and Heineken bottles he found on the property and tried to burn the place down with the governor and his family inside.

Supposedly he was also carrying a hammer and was going to beat him if he found him.
