Captain's log- it's 12 DEC 2024 and my wife was right...

On kitchen knives.

We bought what I considered an obscenely expensive set of kitchen knives in November. Approaching custom 1911 prices expensive... well dang if I haven't changed my opinion of it being frivolous after using them for the past month or so.

I still think we grossly overpaid but dang if a set of quality kitchen knives don't just punch way above their price point/assumed influence. These things (for a lack of better words) fucking rock.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

How bad is this idea?

So after having a seekins hit and loving it I decided that I want a light weight switch barrel dedicated hunting rifle and this is what I’ve come up with but I’m curious in what ways do you see this going wrong before I run up to Altus and talk to them about making it happen. I originally thought about a terminus Zeus but that’s a really heavy action and counter productive to the light weight aspect so with lots of research I found a light weight tikka t3x action with a wto switch lug would do the trick. I know that the bolt would be the holdup but there’s an outfit in Canada that makes tikka bolts where you can change the bolt face. All of this with carbon barrels and a hunter26 stock should make for a really nice and really light setup “THEORETICALLY!”. And that’s why I’m here, are you guys laughing and thinking “that’ll never work” and if so what am I overlooking?
Calibers I would like to shoot with it are
22creedmore
6GT (already load for 6GT anyway)
6.5 prc
7 prc

Finally happened - some national attention

So finally someone in Washington is asking how it’s possible for all levels of law enforcement continually are to stupid to match addresses and photos .

Jim Jordan demanding an investigation now that the US Marshals - a once professional organization is now so fucki g stupid they kidnapped a old white lady - and kept her in a rape cage for 24 hours - when they were looking for an older black lady .

And in a continuing trend - they brought full violence on an old lady .
I don’t know if this trend across America is because they are scared little boys or because they hate their mothers or if they’ve decided to target the old , especially ladies to show just how much they hate the peons .

Definitely not the latest & greatest, but I like 'em... Weaver K4

Sent it off about a month ago and already got it back...Not sure how it got expedited by Ironsight, but I am not complaining

-Cleaned/resealed/No2 purged
-Crosshair reticle installed
-Target turrets installed
-Parallax set for 50 yards

Still wondering what the 'M' in K4M means...I haven't found a single reference or mention..same thing with the 'tracker finish'. If anyone has any insight on either of those, I'd appreciate it.

This is a purpose 25/50 yard scope for CMP rimfire games.

December weather advisory for the Southeast/Midsouth. Elevated risk for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Parts of Virginia and North Carolina are currently under a severe thunderstorm watch as a major multi-part winter storm system formed as a result of a receeding early season polar front from earlier this month colliding with still warm and wet airmasses coming up from the Gulf is bringing snow to the northeast and bands of severe thunderstorms in the Midsouth, with elevated risk for supercells maturing after dark.

Historically, December has seen a major elevated risk for 'maxed out conditions' occurring on the southeastern dry line between polar air masses from the north and warm Gulf tropical inflow along with high altitude shear that continue to feed supercell systems into maturity well after daylight hours. Two of the most costliest and longest track tornadoes in US history, the Mayfield and Rolling Fork F4/F5s, occurred in December. Residents of the Southeast and Midsouth are advised during this time of year to keep track of weather updates and livestreams of storm chasers in the region who operate mobile Dopplar radars.

Taylor Sheridan - an education in a 1-minute read....

This guy is right now one of (if not) the best writer/producer of TV shows, probably in history. He owns the 6666 ranch in Texas- 260,000 acres - And he has a message - to wit - a monologue in his latest series called "Landman". The series is about currently getting oil out of the ground in Texas and here's the quote:

"It's from Sheridans's Landman, a soapy-actiony drama that premiered in November 2024 and that’s set against the fracking-fueled West Texas oil boom. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a roughneck fixer “Landman” for a fictional wildcatting outfit called M-Tex. The company’s snarky young lawyer is surprised when Tommy tells her they use wind farms—what she calls “clean energy”—to power pumps so remote that they’re off the grid. He claps back, “They use alternative energy. There’s nothing clean about this.” She throws him a Zillennial eye roll: “Please, Mr. Oilman, tell me how wind is bad for the environment.” So he does—with impassioned, profane eloquence—as they stand under a towering 400-foot wind turbine that stands on a concrete pad that covers a third of an acre and sits 12 feet deep."

“Do you have any idea how much diesel they have to burn to mix that much concrete?” Tommy schools her. “Or make that steel? And haul this s—t out here and put it together with a 450-foot crane? You wanna take a guess how much oil it takes to lubricate that f—n’ thing? Or winterize it? In its 20-year lifespan, it won’t offset the carbon footprint of makin’ it. And don’t get me started on solar panels or the lithium in your Tesla battery. And never mind the fact that if the whole world decided to go electric tomorrow, we don’t have the transmission lines to get the electricity to the cities. It’d take 30 years if we started tomorrow.”

He isn’t done: “And unfortunately for your grandkids, we have a 120-year-old petroleum-based infrastructure. Our whole lives depend on it. Hell, it’s in everything. That road we came in on. The wheels (tires) on every car ever made, including yours. It’s in tennis rackets and lipstick and refrigerators and antihistamines. Pretty much anything plastic. Your cellphone case, artificial heart valves, any kinda clothin’ that’s not made of animal or plant fibers. Soap, f—n’ hand lotion, garbage bags, fishin’ boats—you name it. Every f—n’ thang. And you know what the kicker is? We’re gonna run out of it before we find its replacement…. Getting oil outta the ground is the most dangerous job in the world. We don’t do it because we like it. We do it ’cuz we run outta options…. There ain’t nobody to blame but the demand that we keep pumpin’ it.”

Gotta love a Texan character!

Why doesn't PRS/NRL have a power factor like handgun competition?

There seems to be a lot of mixed feelings on PRS/NRL because it's turned into a niche game where rifles are 25-30lbs with ultra light recoiling rounds to where you can free-recoil off a barricade and spot your hit.

Handgun competition went through this a long time ago and in order to mitigate the issue they came up with power factor to force recoil management into the equation. Would it bring more diehards back in or drive people away to have a max weight and min muzzle energy for something similar to shooting in IPSC Majors but for rifles?

What’s the deal tangent theta

So I put a tangent 7-35 in my shopping cart a couple days ago and came back to buy it and the price jumped 600.00 $
