Alternative to .223?

Getting a setup together for my 8 year old to learn on. Looking for something 22 cal (so I can use my AEM5) that is .308 bolt face but has similar characteristics to .223 like low recoil and isn’t an absolute barrel burner. Factory ammo would be nice since I don’t currently reload (I know, this is the reloading forum but figure this is the best place to ask). Does anything like that exist?

How do you make Thanksgiving Stuffing?

It’s that time of year again. When happy families gather with all their loved ones and maybe some not so loved ones, to celebrate the bounty life brings, or not.

So the most important question on everyone’s minds is making the stuffing for the turkey, right?

1732662951407.png

It’s probably obvious to all that a good stuffing uses cubed toasted bread with spices, giblets and neck that have been steeped with celery, garlic and onion (the resulting broth used later in the preparation) then broken down to add to the mix. Celery, onion, garlic, poultry seasoning and other spices, all mixed with some additional chicken broth to the right consistency and stuffed into the cavities of the turkey while hot. Then also a large casserole pan of the same stuffing baked with it so that there’s enough.

Then, after Thanksgiving dinner, a later night huge sandwich with turkey, that same stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayonnaise on a heavy white bread for dessert.

I mean, is there another way? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Recs for 8 yr old first hunting rifle????.

So, the boy wants to hunt with me this year and I shoot lefty, he's right handed. (Though I'm questioning his eye dominance)

The only RH hunting rifle I have left is a .270 feather weight Win mod 70. Love the rifle but not a gun I really want him shooting just yet, it kicks pretty hard.

Id like to get him his own rifle but I really don't know how much he's going to be into it, so I'm not forking out custom action money just yet. He'd rather play ball than anything else and has always been that way. He's 8 years old and about 55 lbs., so I'd really like it to be a 6cm (I already load and shoot a lot of this), but I suppose a 6.5cm would work too (I load this too a lot).

Any recs for a solid rifle that will be good for hunting but could also reach out there when he goes to the range with me? I'm guessing Tikka will be a common rec but is there anything I could get that wouldn't suck for say $500-$700?? I havent bought a factory rifle in quite a while, so I am pretty apprehensive about it, and would love some info. Used is also on the table very much but its hard to find a hunting type (not super heavy) 6cm. I have a scope I can put on it. I'd hate to get him a rifle that has a crappy trigger and isn't accurate but I also don't want to fork out big bucks for this.

Thanks

Most practical AR round to supress that's not niche, or limp-dick.

I'm wanting a canned AR because.

Actually, something cool for night stuff. Varmint and predator control. Say, 250yds and under.
What's the ideal round and bbl length without getting too deep in the weeds? I have a number of 556 guns, and a 16in 300bo upper that I honestly don't remember the origin. Build up the 300, use one of the 556s or something else?

Am i wrong

I ordered a triggertech diamond 2 stage rem700 for my impact737r build. It came in a white envelope and when I opened it up the trigger was out of its recess and all the way to the side of the package. Did not take a Pic of that position. I slid it back to the recess and noticed a small nick in the anodizing. It was shipped all over the US, north to south to north then back down to me. The package it's self it beat up and crushed on one side. If I went to a store I would not buy it. I filed for a claim as my gunsmith said he would not use it without sending it in to have it checked at triggertech. The place where I bought it have been wonderful they said it wasn't shipped by them and the last trigger I bought from them came packed in a box with alot of foam. Am I wrong for wanting a replacement.

Scope rail bedding 'WTF?'

So... factory rifle (Sav 10BA) that I've had for a while. Long story short, it's one of those guns that's always been a thorn in my side for one reason or another. Last year, after putting a new (NSS/Criterion) pre-fit barrel on it, I realized the scope rail was loose - again. Figured I'd fix that thing, once and for all. Got the JB weld out, and proceeded to (intentionally) permanently bed the rail (Farrell steel 20 moa) to the receiver. Cleaned it up, and let it sit to cure. Later, I was a little afraid that I maybe didn't get enough release agent on the screw threads and/or in the holes in the receiver, because I couldn't loosen the screws. Ah, well. The damned thing was glued down tight, done.

Except... the gun continued to disappoint. Couldn't find a load that worked. Imagine if you will, a 20" .308 Win that doesn't appear to like Berger 175 BTs, IMR 4064, Lapua brass or 210M primers - might break 1 moa on a good day. Weird, right? Checked action screws, swapped scopes, etc. Nada. Out of desperation, I tried some FGMM S175MK factory ammo. A *little* better, maybe. Borrowed a different chassis from a friend, and tried it again with some Berger factory 185 OTM ammo. First group was good, easy half moa. And it went downhill from there. 1.25-1.75 moa, two-group, shotgun pattern, stringing, etc.

Got it home, debating WTF to try next. Took the scope off, put it on the shelf. Took the chassis off to take back to it's owner. On a whim, I grabbed a torx key, and tried the rail screws. I mean, it sure *shot* like something was loose. And... while none of the screws were exactly 'loose', they sure as $hit weren't what I'd call tight, either. And they *all* came out, vs. before when two of them wouldn't turn at all. The rail was still on there, wouldn't come off with finger / hand pressure. Grabbed a small 8 oz ball peen and tapped the back of the rail and... it slid right off.

So now I've got a receiver with JB Weld residue on top, and a steel scope rail with JB Weld residue on the bottom, and no bleedin' idea how in the flying f$ck that joint came loose like that. The gun was either in the safe (most of the time) or in a case to and from the range. It wasn't exactly left out exposed to hot/cold or chemicals or anything that should have loosened the bond.

I guess my questions are a) best way to remove the remaining residue without (further) damaging anything, and b) ideas as to what might have gone wrong with the previous bedding attempt that it failed like this? Bad batch, bad mix, something else?

What else will Biden and Satan's other minions do to shank the U.S. before Trump takes office?

He's already waved the requirement for newly arriving illegals to check in with ICE in NYC, anticipating the hordes travelling to the border to get in before Trump shuts it down.

Like Saddam Hussein torching the oil fields as his last malicious act as he retreated from Kuwait, there are only sixty days remaining for the OBiden administration and Dems to carry out their plan to destroy America.

I hope they will leave peacefully, with honor and dignity but I anticipate more vindictive acts of sabatoge from bedbug infestations, planted bombs, bugging devices to deadly CIA viruses in the White House and as a grande finale, starting WWIII.

The next two months will be interesting.

Brass neck after firing

I have a proof ss 6.5cm zermatt origin action prefit barrel and I noticed that after firing my case necks are still tight enough that a bullet doesn't go in easily. Is that normal? They bull will slide in but it's like there still a bit of neck tension like the area in my chamber where the necks are is small enough that the necks don't expand very much at all. Obviously you don't want them to blow out a ton but it is normal to have the necks still pretty tight even after firing?
