composites

I'm a PhD engineer (+ MD) and am thinking about starting a ballistics group. Not to much information given right now but looking at doing a couple of things

1. cubic Zirc ceramic composite projectiles (milled) - production of composite can be done on low scale
2. PEEK based cartridges (can utilize another engineering polymer)

Would love to talk to someone. Have been utilizing ABAQUS (FEA software) to determine modifiable porosity an orthogonal material orientation.

background ( I have a completed DOD composite manufacturing paper - just published) can give upon request, not ballistic oriented but a stress shielding application.

Canada's Embarrassment.

When the war kicked off in Sudan a few years ago...there were 1000 Canadians there.

(Dual citizens that abuse our system....Snowbirds).

The weak Canadian military got out a few hundred.

Hundreds were raped, murdered, and sold into sex slavery.

This is the biggest death of Canadians.

Ever heard about it? Probably not.

SOLD R700 223 w/ 1-7t PROOF KRG BRAVO

I have a Lefty Remington 700 223 that has been rebarreled with a heavy Palma, chambered with a 5.56 Reamer by a local gunsmith, sitting in a KRG BRAVO Stock for sale.

Used my trainer, at a PRS match at Red Brush, and as coyote rifle last winter. Painted with duracoat OD Green on the barreled action. Midwest Industries 0 MOA but I have a Talley MFG 20 MOA rail I’ll send with it also. Barrel was a 1-7t Proof Heavy Palma. Cut down to 18” and threaded 5/8-24 at the muzzle. Pretty sure it’s a TirggerTech Special straight but I’ll price it as the Primary in case I’m wrong. Sitting in a KRG Bravo stock that is relatively new as I had it in a Manners TCS prior. Comes with the KRG Arca Fore end and KRG NV Cap. I also added a Foam Cheek pad.

Not sure the round count on the action as I bought that used from gunbroker, but the barrel is sitting around 3k. 90% of that was shot with MK262 77gr but the rest was 88gr ELDMs and staball match.

This is, and continues to be one of my best shooting rifles. I’m always surprised on how well it shoots so then I take pics on Ballistic-X and send it to the group chat. Only reason I’m selling is I’m getting the same barrel done for my Orgin Action and trying to down size some of my platforms.

Looking for $1250 shipped.

Groups show with 77gr and 88gr ELDM. These have been consistent results for this rifle.

Help: Need to fill this gap (pics)

Swapping out the muzzle device on my Badger 2013 since I’m not running it suppressed anymore. Went w an Area 419 hellfire. When I go to install it, I have a gap between the barrel (Rock Creek, Sendero contour) and the muzzle device. I ordered a Silencerco spacer but it doesn’t fit. Are there any fixes on the market? A shim or similar or am I going to have to get something custom cut? Thanks!

The New - The One - DNT 7-35x56 FFP Riflescope only $599.99

A little while ago we informed you about the The New DNT Zulus Nightvisions. Arken is no longer handling the distribution for these. They are now being handled by DNT. Same great unit, still great pricing. DNT not only offers the 5-20 Nightvision Scope with, and without, Laser Rangefinder. Equipped with the highly sensitive SONY STARVIS 2 sensor and an integrated 850nm illuminator, the DNT Optics ZHD312R/ZHD520R offers incredible visual sensitivity and illumination to see potential targets.
The ZHD312R/ZHD520R features a built-in laser rangefinder, providing accurate and consistent distance measurements between 5 – 1100 yards. The internal ballistic calculator quickly calculates your ballistic drop at the distance you`ve ranged.

We also announced the addition of the DNT ThermNight Thermal & Night Vision Multispectral Scope with Laser Rangefinder and Ballistic Calculator - PMS - Picatinny 0 MOA Short . DNT Optics TNC225R ThermNight, features a state-of-the-art thermal sensor for detecting targets and advanced high-definition digital night vision for identifying the.

The reticles are slightly different, with the DNT 7-35x56 FFP Riflescope having the illumination in the whole Christmas Tree portion of the reticle vs the Arken EP-5 7-35x56 which is illuminated in only the center.

We are also told that the Japanese extra low dispersion glass in the DNT Riflescope is optically superior. It features a 45-degree canted windage indicator so you can see where you're at without compromising your shooting position. It also includes the Throw Lever.

Crafted with hardened aircraft-grade aluminum and Japanese extra low dispersion glass. THE ONE scopes are the result of a collaboration of PRS and ELR shooters. Quick target acquisition and precise engagements with our improved 45-degree canted windage indicator.

6.8spc bolt gun build?

Anyone build a 6.8spc bolt gun? Only reason I’m considering it is to consolidate down to a few calibers to minimize reloading components and stuff I have to have and already run an AR in 6.8.

I know I would need a new bolt head for my Origin.

What would I use for mags? MDT 6 ARC mags?

Anyone know of a place I could get a prefit? Or would it be a custom job?

Possible feeding or ejection issues?

Plan would be origin, 14.5-16” barrel with my Kgm r30k, xlr element, and a 1-6/2-10 type optic

Garmin chronograph loose insides?

Hey guys with the Garmin chronograph. Mines been eating muzzle blast and has missed a few readings which hasn’t happened in the past. If I shake the housing real good I can hear a rattle almost like a small bb or something’s slightly loose inside. Can anybody shake theirs so I can figure out if this is normal? If you reload with bushings it sounds like shaking your sizing die and the free floating bushing inside rattle

Brand new rifle stuck casings

Have a brand new Howa 1500 in 300 win.

First 40 rounds down the barrel and 1/2 of them sticking in the chamber. Stuck so hard had to hit the bolt handle with my palm to get them to release. Ammo was off the shelf new rounds 180gn Federal hunting ammo, Chrome casings.

Got home cleaned the chamber, inspected chamber, no issues I can find. Had some once fired brass casings. Ran about 40 rds in and out to see if they would stick too. About 10 of them stuck but not as near as bad as on the range. Just had to jiggle the handle a little bit and they’d release. The brass ones that stuck were also hard to close the bolt. No issues with tightness in closing the bolt on the new rounds.

Wondering if it’s just because it’s so tight and new? But never had any other rifle act like this.

Thanks for any help!

Well it looks like another hurricane is about to hit fl. Somewhere on the gulf coast. somewhere between tampa and the big bend area.
You folks in its path even up into ga batten down
This one is predicted to be pretty strong with a shit ton of storm surge. Twc showing 10-15’ of storm surge in the bug bend area.

Help And Prayers Needed!

Got a call 1:00 A.M Sunday morning. One off my employees suffered a stroke. Brought him to the local hospital. They stabilized him and flew him to Oschners in New Orleans 2.5 hours away. His wife is with him, I’m running the company so I can’t go until the weekend. This is devastating for all of us. His sister set up a go fund me account. If you can help in anyway we all will be indebted to you all.
They will try to operate this week as he still has bleeding on his brain.😢

Robar 50 BMG.....never shot, just acquired.

Not sure how to look anything up on this rifle being as the company is no longer around. Magazine seems to be custom made.....wanting to get another 1 or 2 magazines made for it, living in Nebraska with very few resources around makes it tough to find someone who can make one for less than 1k. Does anyone know of any mags that will work in these by chance or is my only option to have them made? Looking like the ladder from what I can tell.
This rifle was gifted to me from my neighbor who had it ordered years back, never shot it but kept it oiled and clean. We talked about our military experiences throughout the years and him being over 60 and in declining health, decided to give me the weapon to see it be taken care of and used. I'm still young and strong and experienced with weapons, have the land to shoot it and was looking for some info about these rifles. Marine Corp vet 2006-2012. MOS 0311. This is a bit different than my M4!
New to long distance shooting. Thank you

So over the Contrived and Repetitive Nature of Stages today

If we are being honest, this needs to change.

Three steps: drop the weighted, tuned, flat-bottom rifle on a bag, wash, rinse, repeat

This is stupid; where is the training value beyond repetition, and what skill are we demonstrating?

There must be a reason; we need to have value in the course of fire. Sure, entertain us, but why not have a training objective with the stages?

What is the actual takeaway?

Even watching the stages at Cameo, they were reduced to size, ignoring the terrain, adding artificial props, and doing nothing to increase the stress or heart rate of the competitor. Why are we trying to ease shooters into a scenario instead of increasing the movement?

Why no mandatory mag changes, it's designed to work with you vs forcing you to adapt. The only compromise I see is the height of the obstacle, correct me if i am wrong, but what are the 3 main solutions to a shot being promoted? Bag on prop, bag on prop with tripod rear, bag on prop...

I know I am pissing in the wind, but I am gonna offer up choices; I think it's boring to watch; it's who taps the trigger vs who follows through, and not much else as the rifles do all the work. The only value comes in the number of stages you shoot, the repetition.

Look at it this way, at the IPRF there were no training clinics beyond Emils talk and really there is no value in training, only shooting the comps as is... weird they dont value training, there is nothing to be learned is what i saw, no Tips and Tricks, they just assume you are there so you are the peak of the sport... crazy they ignore this element

and before you dismiss it completely, look at archery again, look at the front page of their competitive organization, right at the top, find a coach, find a mentor, find training, learn the craft as you progress, we have none of that... strange to me.

“BARREL MOVEMENT BEFORE THE BULLET EXITS”

Bryan Litz’ video was demonstrating how a rifle barrel moves (or perhaps contracts?) by a little bit before the bullet even exits the barrel.

Is the apparent barrel movement:

(1) An artifact due to gases exiting before the bullet

IMG_4187.gif

(2) Secondary to the barrel metal behaving in a fluid state during high impulse, with the muzzle contracting rearwards while the areas proximal to the breech and throat are expanding sideways?

I suspect the latter…

During high impulse events, solids may exhibit properties more akin to liquids.
