Odd Head Stamp

Getting ready to do some load development for the 35 Whelen and pulled a quick pause. Most of my brass looks to be formed from 30-06 of various headstamp. So, sit down and sort for load consistency. Luckily there are two boxes of Remington factory 2x fired. As to the rest, there are Norma, WW Western, WCC-55, LC-67, and the oddball DAC-51. The DAC has a triangle inside the “C”.

Anyone have an idea who made it?

The mixed head stamp will be loaded as practice ammo with the Remington used for my hunting loads with premium bullets.

Precision AR -15 10 shot moa groups

So I put together a non clone correct SPR type upper and have been struggling to get the groups I had hoped for. Trying to get some feedback from some more seasoned shooters regarding gas gun accuracy shooting. I mainly have shot bolt action when trying for precision and so I’m not sure what to expect realistically. I’m trying to do some basic load development using 77 gr OTM from Mid South Shooters. I’m loading new Starline brass with Varget and CCI 400 primers. Rifle is 18 inch PRI Douglas stainless MK 12 barrel 1:8 twist Geissele Mark 18 Arca handguard on BCM upper receiver matched to my BCM lower with Geissele 2 stage trigger. Using B5 Sopmod stock with a bag rider. Shooting prone with bipod on front and rear bag. Optic is Meopta Optika 6 3-18X 50 in ADM Recon mount. taking my time and shooting groups at 100 yards, checking all the boxes of solid position, breathing, trigger control, follow through, ect…most groups have been larger than moa. I have one sub moa 10 shot group so far in 200 rounds of attempting my best. I can shoot in the 3’s with my Tikka CTR 308, but don’t know what the deal is so far with this gun ammo optic and shooter combination. Any thoughts? Maybe I should try some 75 gr Hornady or some 69 SMK, but not really blown away so far with this barrel. I’m not saying it’s not just me shooting poorly. I hear a lot of people online claiming 1/2 moa groups with precision gas guns so I’m thinking I have a dud, but then I watch 9 hole reviews comparing a PRI douglas to a BCM 18 inch 1:8 and their best 9 shot group was 1.3 inches with factory Match ammo…I’m fairly new to precision shooting, reloading and especially precision gas guns, so what’s some thoughts dudes of the more seasoned variety? What should I focus on?

6.5 Grendel 123g SST hand loads. Questions about velocity vs temp vs powder batch.

I have a load that I've been using for over a year. Hornady 123g SST, Nosler, CCI 400 primers and 28.2g of H335 at 2.255 COAL. Last time I used the chronograph was in January about 50f and they averaged 2455. Primers were flat but no piercing. Ran the chrono again to verify and build data but out of 60 fired cartridges I had 11 pierced primers and an starting to get extractor imprints on the cases. Yesterday was about 87f. Velocities in Jan averaged 2424 and yesterday average was 2510. Disassembled the gun and started checking things. BCG and 20" fluted barrel are Faxon. Found the firing pin stick out was .046" and it seems the spec is .028" to .036". Also, measured the bolt face setback and found its .140" for which the usual measurement is .136". I don't see how wear would change that measurement, probably machined that way. I removed the firing pin, took .011" off and reprofiled the ball end on the lathe. Ended up with .0345" of stick out and fired a primed case with no powder or projectile and it fires no problem. Ordering a new firing pin but need it to work for now. So, a lot going on there but what's the opinion on the change? I know I was up there on pressure but Am I just passing the pressure limit due to the temperature? I have no reference how temperature stable H335 is. Should I just lower the charge to where its back to 2425 or so average?

Beautiful Wood 98 Mauser

Just finished a rifle my Dad started
30 years ago. He had a Interarms Mark X action in 270 Win. He built the stock out of wood from our farm that he had dried 10 years earlier.
Curved metal checkered buttplate and grip cap. Found some Warne steel mounts (they were matte of course) shortened front mount and fluted the front just for looks. Polished and blued afterwards. Had to do the bottom metal again because it looked like it had been in a tool bag for 30 years. Found a pristine Leupold 3x9 gloss to finish it out. It still had grease in the barrel.
Been sitting unfinished because he lost some trigger parts. He's hit that stage so he passed it on to me this Bday to finish up. It's never leaving this family.

I guess we stole Maduro's plane

From the airport in the Dominican Republic...

I hate marxist shitbags as much as the next guy. But really... WTF?

We aren't at war with Venezuela... At least not militarily.

This isn't a strategic victory. It's a drunken fraternity stunt.

Who thought this was a good enough idea to give it the green light?

Scope height over bore

I have 2 RPRs. One is a .308 and the other is a .338. I was reading an article about proper scope mounting and it said scope height over bore should be between 1.5 and 2.5 inches. Another article said 1.5-1.8 inches. Both of my rifle scopes are over 2.5. The .308 is 2.66 inches and the .338 is 2.9 inches. I read that the lower the scope is mounted the more accurate the shots will be at long range. Do I need to get new rings?

Can we start a fund to bail this perp out... so we can have him?

Not sure who did this. But probably not a church-going member of the local Eagle's lodge.

Once they catch perp and set bail... can we get together and get this shitbag released to the custody of... say... The Bear Pit.

Which will naturally treat the sierra-bravo with the respect and decorum he deserves. Probably starting with flaying every inch of skin off his body and covering him with Red Devil Paint Stripper.

WTF.... What kind of fucking cowardly POS shoots a 90-year old? To steal his car.

Failure to fire.. bad primers?

Loaded up some 260 with Federal gold medal primers. The primers were from about 2018 but always kept in a sealed ammo box . Had about every third one not go ‘boom.’ I think I’m getting a decent primer strike and even attempted to fire one of the rounds a second time.. no joy. Is it common to have a ‘bad batch’ of primers or am I missing something? Thanks!

Unimpressed with new stuff at the range

So with hunting season around the corner I reached into the safe and pulled out my pre-39 model 70 that belonged to my grandfather and wandered to the range. Simple rig, original walnut stock, steel butt plate, original dog bone barrel with original irons and front sight hood, bedded, 6X scope, 150 gr BT over IMR 4895 (actual IMR 4895 in the tin cans, still have a few left).

I fired my obligatory five rounds, collected the target, cleaned the rifle and cased it. Still shoots better than moa. That rifle has put meat on the table going on a century. Looking around at others on the range, one or two not having much success with their brandy new rigs I realized how perfectly satisfactory the old rig is.

Bottom line is no matter how much you reinvent the wheel, it's still a wheel.
