Barrel wear Vs velocity/weight/energy

A simple question.

Is barrel wear just a function of velocity or is it based on energy?

At the moment in my 308 I'm shooting 168 ELD match heads at around 2700 ft/s

It's a new barrel and I would like to minimise wear ( don't we all!) I'm looking to improve performance at 1000 yds.

So should I increase velocity or increase bullet weight to minimise barrel wear.

All input greatfully received

Suppressor cleaning

Came across something while cleaning my suppressor and I wanted to share what I found. My hands were covered in carbon from scrubbing my baffles out and I noticed that zep cherry bomb hand wash took it off real easy. So I came up with the bright idea to try and scrub the baffles with it. Worked amazing for getting the majority of the carbon out. Anyone have any experience with using stuff like this?

Angle shooting

I know I can get a cosign indicator on my rail/scope, but I don't want move it from gun to gun or buy one for every rifle.
I want to learn how to do the math longhand. From geometry (or maybe it was calculus) in HS, the saying was Oscar Has A Heap Of Apples
Opposite/Hypotenuse = sign
Adjacent/Hypotenuse = cosign
Opposite/Adjacent = tangent

So how do I do angle shooting math longhand??

How about we have a thread about the "paranormal"?

Before I get into the introductions- a bit of "housekeeping" on the topic. The subject of "paranormal" might elicit images of folks wearing tinfoil hats but at the root/etymology of the term- all that the term "paranormal" means (academically at least) is topics that are beyond scientific explanation. Nothing more & nothing less, it's just subjects/topics/experiences that aren't (yet) able to be explained.

That being said now- I suppose I've always had an interest in the 'paranormal' but almost always from a curiosity point of view rather than from personal experiences. The closest I can relate to would be frequent deja vu experiences. But this topic has always been of interest to me-

I've started posts here asking for ghost stories. Not necessarily because I personally believe in ghosts but more so because I'm enthralled with the history behind those stories. Reckon that growing up just outside of Gettysburg helped to form that curiosity. I used to be a voracious reader, reading all sorts of published stories about ghosts & pirates (among other topics).

I'm not sure I believe 'ghosts' exist intellectually but I still find those stories fascinating, I also love the supposed video footage "proving" shadow figures/whatever exist in certain structures/locations. Again, it's primarily because I find the history/story as the explanation as being of the most interest to me personally.

One element of the paranormal though that I do permit myself some leeway in being more openminded is when it comes to space, time, extraterrestrials, things of that nature. I'd like to think that there's an intellectual element to my belief in being open minded on the subjects but that's just me (and open for argument).

BUT- on the topic, it's said that there's more stars in the sky than grains of sand on Earth. So, in my minds eye, it would be more than plausible to believe that each of those stars a multitude of planets in their orbit/solar system. And each of those planets likely has moons. The vastness of this rabbit hole is just mind boggling for a simpleton such as myself. But the numbers are just... astronomical and to believe that life exists ONLY here... on Earth alone, in our solar system, I just can't help but find that mathematically implausible.

I'd also argue that being open to the belief of "aliens" from the perspective previously mentioned is not the same as believing that little green men keep visiting earth and are abducting humans & colluding with local governments who are covering up their involvement for decades. All I'm offering is the belief that (in my mind) mathematically there HAS to be multicellular organisms inhabiting the galaxy/universe. On the subject- I've also always considered our 'table of elements' which shapes science as we know it and wondered if the same elements/rules would exist on other planets/moons/solar systems (I lean towards there being a high probability where it doesn't/ even our understanding of life being carbon based may be changed with the gravitational influences in other solar systems.

Enough rambling from me now- anyone else think about/have an opinion on the paranormal?

Ruger STAR 308 ?

giving some thought to a n AR10 weight will matter. have had a few, including a rogue that was disappointing at it's price point. i have looked at evrything i can fin about them on line. all of it is rather mixed regarding reliability.
i am just looking for input from people here on what they have seen from owning or watching them in use. acccuracy? esp with M80 which i know is never the greatest ammo but about the lowest cost, which matters.

bighorn origin fire pin issue ?

Just completed a 308 build with a zermatt big horn origin action, proof 20" carbon barrel and timney elite hunter trigger. After completing the build, i popped in a mag with 308 snap caps and about every 5/6 cycles of the bolt the firing pin goes off/decocks itself when closing the bolt. I took out the mag and cycled the bolt again and still experienced the same thing happening. My question is , has anyone had this happen before, is there something in my build I missed that might be making this happen or is there a fault with the bolt/firing pin/action? Any help would be appreciated. I'll see if i can upload a short video tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help

Clickers

I just loaded up and shot my 5th firing using 6.5cm alpha munitions ocd LRP brass with one charge weight pretty stout. I didn't puncture a primer or have any signs of pressure even though a couple shots were at around 2900 and those shots i got a clicker which ive never had before. I anneal every firing and normally dont fire really stout loads. Usually around the 2750 mark. This was win staBall 6.5 and I went up a bit too highto start but what im wondering is with those pieces of hrass that were clickers is that round now a clicker from now on or is that just a result of such stout load? I didn't have a heavy bolt lift or anything.

Dillon xl750 is there slop in ram like the 650xl?

i’ve had a Dylan XL 650 bought it brand new and should’ve paid more attention as to where and why the cases were not lining up with the dies. whether it’s rifle or straight wall pistol brass it does not lineup with the center of each station.

.

Does the XL 750 fix this? Did they add a bronze bushing so that there’s not slop in the ram?

Looks like the XL 750 is basically the same except they change the primer system.

FYI, my case feeder even has a warp in the bottom half where I had to add thin card stock to level it out so the brass cases will not keep falling out of the feeder before it got to the drop spot.

I should’ve boxed it up and brought it back immediately. Now it’s past that point obviously as this is now a discontinued model and they’ve moved onto this XL 750

I’ve got a ticket with DILLAN we’ll see what they say. I’ve done everything, including adding thin bushings to the left side of the bottom of the ram pin holder… this helps to twist or force the head to the left …

I get that this is not a very expensive press in the grand scheme of things…
a misaligned, drilled or bored hole even with a bushing will still be a misaligned .. to whatever side it was drilled/bored off center on…. the slop would be reduced because it would be a much tighter fitting piece.. It doesn’t have to be like a crank and Conrod , as this is not turning at 5,000 rps… so a bronze bushing would work just fine. I would pay an extra hundred dollars or even 200 for that bronze bushing to be machined and squeezed in there for a better fit..
