Recap of the URSA NorCal June '25 event

June 17, 2025 - Recap of the URSA NorCal June ‘25 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)

Well, we shot our last match before our 3-month shutdown for archery and rifle deer seasons kick off and the weather was very kind to us all.

All shooters qualified for the record round with ease (at 2147 yards) and we ran the first leg of the match and still had 5 shooters on the line. Way to go shooters!

We then moved back to 2600 yards and, when the dust settled, I got lucky drawing the first position thus avoiding the mirage and taking the win.

Runner Up was Jim R shooting Berger’s newest bullet in his 375 CheyTac. Jim shot very well earning himself 2 more achievement points in the process – and reaching Novice level. Congratulations Jim!!!

After the conclusion of the match we went out to 3700 yards but nobody got any hits.

We will start shooting again 3rd Sunday of the month in October (19th). See you all then!!!

Lynn was shooting 390 gr Hornady A-tips out of his Billy Goat Machine-built .375 CT with Stiller 1.600 TAC DRIVER action, Lothar-Walther 36” 1.650 straight cylinder barrel, McMillan 50 HBR stock w/ tracking rails and barrel block, March 5-42x56 High Master wide-angle scope in Burris rings w/ 40 MOA inserts on a Mirage ULR 70 MOA rail.

Jim was shooting 410 gr Bergers out of his Benchmark-chambered .375 CT with Stiller TAC 408 (TAC DRIVER) 1.450 action, Benchmark 27” barrel, Jason Avila ELR stock, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope with Nightforce rings on a special-order 60 MOA Stiller rail.

Ideal .223 Bolt Action Plinker (?)

I know most people have had Tikka's that shot everything with the 8 twist. Mine would not. It shot 77's into 1 hole, but anything lighter was not good. Some stuff was 4-5 moa bad. So, while probabilities are on your side, it's not 100% the easy button.

Used 9 twist 700 or model 7, the CZ I mentioned before was also 9 twist, a Savage will bang out one holers as well, and for next to no money since everyone turns their nose up at them. Just don't put any money into any of them and have fun burning through your ammo.
That isn't my experience.

I shot this target years ago in arfcom's MOA All Day Long challenge with my 1:8 Tikka Sporter. Rules were 100 yards, off a bipod and a small rear bag. Five, 5 shot groups had to average sub MOA

The rifle was new to me and I was trying to see what it liked, so I threw random loads together with 8208 and 77 and 52 SMK, 53 Vmax, and I think there is a 77 Nosler Custom Competition in there as well. All the groups combined averaged under .75"

R700 scope base suggestions

Little more retarded than normal…. I finally talked myself putting money down on an m40a1 clone from GAP. Unless I find the correct scope/base I am going to use a Leupold mark 4 hd4-18 scope as a place holder so I can shoot it/see what it can do.

I’m assuming the scope mounting holes are still using 6-48 screws.

I’m thinking just going with a badger base and rings but wanted to see what other suggestions are out there. Scope is big so I am worried about issues with base/screws.

CA tax payers have already paid for at least $34 million for rioters to be transported and equipped.

Since when am I required to prove to anyone I've got the paperwork to be allowed to have my freedoms?
You're only allowed to have those freedoms if you're......wait for it...........a.......CITIZEN!!
You're required to prove that on just about any Fed/State document.....or if you step out of line and porky the pig doesn't like what your brown ass is doing. Or white or yellow.....blah blah
I honestly can't wrap my head around why anyone would defend illegal migration.
Let's just say you're an average dude who likes being surrounded by wets, sands and towels. That's cool.....they make some good food. After you pay 20-25% to the feds.....another 13% to Gavin....plus sales, gas and property taxes, wouldn't you rather that stolen money go towards your children's schools. Maybe some freeways that didn't knock your teeth out? Nice parks and good infrastructure?? Or.....do you prefer Zah, Juanita and E.B.Tisha get all the perks for their anchor babies and groceries.
Maybe you like the sound of gunfire from drive by's in your neighborhood.
America first is just that......America for Americans. Wether you were born here or you LEGALLY immigrated....and assimilated.

Israel/iran

When someone is a jerk to you maybe they are an asshole.
When 2 people are, maybe a coincidence
When Everyone hates you, That's called a clue.

Either way, Israel does whats best for them. They are not the US and they do NOT have our interests at heart. They would love to see thousands of Americans burn, if only to get us to do their dirty work. They OWN congress through AIPAC. Only a fool thinks they are an ally.

Long gong

When I started my interest in "precission .22" some 4 years ago, I figured I'd shoot the (new to the area) PRS matchs being run at my club. After observing one match, I realized my old bones were just not up to the arobics of positional shooting. From there, i started shooting mainly by myself and from a bench at KYL targets and various other reactive targets. Before long, I was drawing attention to people who were intreagued. Not much longer after thant, I had near a dozen or so guys interested enough in this kind of shooting that they ended up putting togeather their own fleet of CZ and Bergara rifles. These days, we have as many as 20 shooters at our monthly matchs where we shoot all kinds of targets from 25 to 100 yds. ( KYL"s, Reverse KYL's, dueling trees, lollypops, paint balls, q tips...........). We are not shooting to any standard set of rules, just plagerizing and improvising to keep the shooting fun for all levels. Rules almost always change from match to match to keep it fresh and challaging. The message there is that if it's fun and achevable for the average shooter ( which are admittedly getting older like myself) , they will come. I figure the 200 and 300 yd long range stuff is just the next iteration of that fun. It's going to bring those same people in and likely a few more. The rabbit hole would be a lonely place if you had to stay down there by yourself. :)
I like this.

Tikka T3 Thread

I have an older Tikka 3 Varmint (223) that when loaded with 80gr Amax and Varget will shoot in the.25 MOA range consistently. The outlier is a slightly lower poa. There are seven shots in that ragged hole. This group is at 200 yds. Three different loads. I won’t give this one up. I have it sighted in at 300 yds, its never failed on prairie dogs at that distance.

after one of the most unpopular domestic policies
Last pole I saw said 57% of Americans support deportation. Your use of of unpopular domestic policies is pretty funny. Do you write for CNN?? This is exactly what I voted for
