Suppressor for Precision 16” .223

I don’t want to say money is no object but I’ve dumped a decent amount of coin into my 223 precision gun and I’m not afraid to keep that trend going.

1500 bones, I guess. Would obviously be cool if it was less. Means more money for ammo.

I don’t know that I need or want a $2,000 can but if someone says hey go do this $1500 can, then I’m down. However if someone says hey the OCL Polonium is what’s up, I’m cool with that too.
I have a PTR VENT 3 .556 suppressor I use on a mid range 16" AR. The gas blowback is minimal and it is QUIET AF for an AR 15 can. It is a bit long at 7"+, not heavy though. I'm going to get another dedicated .556 and am looking at the Dillon Rifle Company DRC .556 and a CAT WB, and PTR Spiritus(shorter version of the Vent 3). All are in the Grand to 1500 range. The Dillon Rifle Company DRC is1500 with a $200 tax stamp deduction with a coupon code at Bauer precision. All seem to be very good .556 cans, only one I have hands on with is the Vent 3 though and I love it. Much better than my high back pressure cans on the AR

6.5 Grendel

Is the general consensus that CFE223 is the easy button? I’ve got TAC which I’m still working on, but use mainly for “bulk” 77 grain 556 as well as some 308 loads. For precision 556 and 308 I’m using N140. I’ve also got some H335, but my initial trials werent as easy as I’d hoped. Is it worth grabbing CFE223 so I’m only trying 1 powder?
I initially thought the Lehigh 110 match made sense, but I’ve struggled to get adequate speed and acceptable groups. I saw a lot of positive results with Lapua Scenar 123 so I bought about 800 of those and will be using them.
I actually think TAC is the easy button. I know many like cfe because it gives great speeds at equal or lower pressures. However, its going to be more sensitive to temp changes and I hear really dirty.

Do you have a bolt gun or semi? If I were you, I would try experimenting with n140 just to see if there is potential. I've read on the forums that n133, n135, and n140 will be good grendel powders but there's very little to no info of people backing that up. It would be really cool if you could try it out and post results.

Otherwise, benchmark should be good, especially with lighter bullets. If you have a bolt gun, you might make it work with the 123s.

The obvious and easy answers are the super difficult to get powders which I'll list below.

If you can find those, you're set. Varget is good if you have a bolt gun and can load long to be able to stuff more into the case. It is pretty bulky for the case size so stuffing enough of it is difficult. For that reason, Staball Match, which is similar burn rate to varget, might work. It is a ball powder so should be easier to pack being that its more dense.

Movie Theater Real Genius... the Ultimate 1980's "Nerd Movie?"

So who doesn't like the 1980's "geek comedy" Real Genius? Movie never gets old.

But while watching it for the umpteenth time, I started to wonder 'how' they did the popcorn scene in an era where CGI was just in the imaginations of a few computer wizards... And with a bit of Google-fu came upon this great article!

Not only on how they did the 'popcorn' but how they made the movie so well that it still holds up as a Cold War Classic. It's a great read! And still a great movie!

And, yes, they used real popcorn and blew up a house. As well as burning down a popcorn factory and a warehouse! Even the laser technology was 'real' it just had not been invented quite yet. (It was 'invented' a couple of years after the movie came out.)

And, yes, along with Wargames, Revenge of the Nerds and The Manhattan Project (all good geek movies)... Still love Real Genius!

Any fellow AT thumbhole users rocking a shorty 6.5? Seems proof only offers .308 for prefit's in 16.5"
I have an 18.5" 6.5CM? I shot the 20" 308 barrel it came with and found myself preferring the 6.5. However I am probably going to sell the 18.5", pick up a long shlong 26" 6.5CM barrel, and build a lighter platform to be my short handy rig.

I had a 16.5" 6.5CM barrel in my SRS, and wanted a couple extra inches for this. A little extra velocity goes a long way when a gentle breeze is 15-20mph here. Im not sure most people, or targets, would notice the difference between a 16" 6.5CM or 16" 308 <400 yards.
