5.56x45 muzzle device questions

The Seekins brake is another to look at. I have one on my Seekins AR I have used in 3 gun and it works great and not overly expensive. They have a video on the page below showing it being shot.

It's also one of the less obnoxious ones to be next to, if that's something a guy is concerned about.

CDG, 737r or Fuzion for PRS build

That super smooth glass hotdog in a polished hallway feel is great until it’s full of dust or mud. I have three impacts and I’ve run them in Oklahoma and New Mexico dust storms and snow storms and down pouring thunderstorms and all combinations of the three and I’ve never once had the action bind in any way. I think that is the point of the “sloppy” feel. Hand fitting is great on a bench gun and shit when the going gets tough. But then I also have no idea what the “hitch” or “clunkiness” people are talking about is either. And I almost always run my bolt much slower than seems likely.

good pts but the kelbly has aggressive bolt fluting. so no problems there. I think he was talking about just how smooth the action is. the black bear is the smoothest action ive ever ever felt but its a flat base.

also funny i havnt heard about a hitch in the impacts. but i dont have one.

anything specifically?

as far as i know the Kelblys had a design flaw in their mechanical ejector several years ago where the ejector was catching the brunt force of the bolt and it was shearing off the tiny pin that holds the mech ejector in.

that problem has since been addressed in all their actions. I would call for a modified ejector to fix that problem if u own a atlas.

__________

the new Prometheus is my fav action available right now. it has all the features you need in a PRS rig. integral lug, rail, beefy as all heck, smooth, etc etc. when i do side by side tests ive yet to find an action smoother. the trigger hanger is nice for timing your trigger if you are ocd and for a quick trigger swap in poor conditions (AZ this year was so dusty 10 triggers went down, mine included) same last year in NM dust. it happens. esp if you shoot a lot.

that being said i also like impacts and bighorns. and you give me a trued up remington 700 ill be just fine. just doesnt have the sexy resale.

I shot the NRL match in snow and mud last weekend. My partner was using an Impact. I was using the Prometheus. We won by nearly 30 pts over 2nd place team. due to shitty weather, I literally screwed a new barrel on the night before the match and used a load i knew worked good on the last barrel kelbly sent me. easy button.

but to say no to any custom action is just ridiculous. find a good deal on the hide of any actions mentioned above and i guarantee it will shoot better than you or i are capable of. there are lots of crazy good deals that pop.

7-08 vs 7 SAW vs 7CM vs ? for Large Frame

It’s on a distant back burner. All my current focus is on more important work.

But for a high performance cartridge that fits inside the AR-10 action using .473” case head, the better-designed 7mms really have had my attention for a while.

I was looking at 7mm SAW until Alpha told me about 7 SWC.

I already have some experience with 7mm-08.

7 SWC can run 190gr A-TIP at very respectable speeds. I love the sound of 7mm higher BC bullets hitting steel at distance, and how easy it is to hit with them in the wind. I don’t notice the difference in recoil between 7mm-08 and .308 Win.

The 7mm BCs crush everything in 6.5mm and .30 Cal when you look at them:

190gr Hornady A-Tip Match0.838Match
180gr Hornady ELD-Match0.796Match
197gr Sierra MatchKing HPBT0.780Match
195gr Berger Extreme Outer Limits (EOL) Elite Hunter0.755Hunting
190gr Berger Long Range Hybrid Target0.751Match
185gr Nosler RDF0.719Match
183gr Sierra MatchKing0.713Match
184gr Berger F-Open Hybrid Target0.695Match
175gr Hornady ELD-X0.689Hunting
180gr Berger Very Low Drag (VLD) Target0.683Match
180gr Berger Hybrid Target0.680Match
180gr Berger Very Low Drag (VLD) Hunting0.673Hunting
162gr Hornady ELD-Match0.670Match
180gr Sierra MatchKing0.660Match
180gr Lapua Scenar-L0.660Match
147 LED-M, 150 SMK, 153.5 Hybrid will all keep up with half the bullets on the list and are only "crushed" by a handful of them. Not to mention the slower you go the lower the BC so in reality a 150gr SMK at extra 100-200fps isn't going to trail very far behind most of these bullets.

I've been interested in trying to find the best 7mm cartridge for a .470 SA for a while now and this cartridge looks to be the best (under those conditions) but I don't see that it's going to "crush" any of the 6.5mm options comparing apples to apples, improve the performance yes but crush is a stretch.

There's Still Great Deals Available

With all the talk about how tariffs will be affecting pricing, there's still many great deals available for you. Companies like DNT have said that as they run out of current inventory they'll have slight price increases, however, this will be done very slowly on a product by product basis. I spoke with GPO yesterday and they are sitting back and waiting to see what happens when there is a resolution. At the moment it's uncertain exactly what and when they'll be an answer to cost increases and they're trying to not do anything until the uncertainty is resolved.

New Applied Ballistics® Quantum™ APP! - & It's Free!

Thanks for your reply.

I cannot duplicate the issue I described in the last paragraph of my previous post where if I had more than one target with individual wind conditions it wouldn't let me update the whole card, so hopefully that doesn't happen again.

I'm not seeing any visual indicator anywhere on the card for a target with individualized inputs. It's either highlighted when I'm actively changing it's individual inputs or it isn't and I'm updating the rest of the card.
I'll keep an eye out for the video. I'm assuming it will be on youtube?

Thanks again.
Scroll to the far right on the Target Card. It says ENV, TGT, and WEZ. When those are lit up, the data for that target is individualized.

AR15 tuning questions…..

This is a very late post, I’ve been real busy…. I’ve got bout 400 rounds through this rifle now and man it’s a shooter….. I mostly shoot 68gr hornady frontier 223 due to price and availability. Hard to shoot consistently when it’s hard to find some of the other stuff….. however it’s shooting the frontier very well out to 500y….. wanted to show my last 8 shot group at 200y, I think I’ll keep this rifle around, also did a little cerekote y’all might like….
Good going. I just picked up a bunch of that Hornady Frontier stuff myself. The 55gr match hp shot really well. Unfortunately, every other round popped the primer. Not due to being too hot either. No signs of over pressure. The primers just fell out and jammed up my rifle every other round. I also have some 68gr coming in. I hope it does better.

Vortex RazorHD Gen III 6-36x56 vs NF ATACR 7-35x56

@ov3rclock3d Like you I have made my choice. Theos it is. went to the range today and had a hell of a time looking for target holes with my Steiner. A buddy was running an Athlon ares 4.5x30 and to be honest, the calarity was better than the Steiner. I could spot the 22lr holes in the target out to 300yds on white paper mid day. I couldn't see my holes though my scope and there was significant CA.... Makes me almost regret selling my Athlon a few weeks ago. The one thing that really kills the Athlon for me is the way in which you have to set the zero stop. This is the 3rd time we have had to do it to my buddies rifle due to changes in the scope rings and mounting bases. I have the opportunity to get a new G3R for a little over $2k.. if the Theos doesn't work out Ill try it next.

Any scope ring recommendations?

Where's the G3R for a little over 2k deal at?

Ballistic calculators disagree with my actual elevation amounts - help please!

actual POI did not tally with what the electronic target was telling me.
Yeah, if you had said in the first post that E-targets were being used, a few of us would have asked "did you calibrate the targets?"

ShotMarker and Silver Mountain have to be calibrated, because the electronics will say "center" where it "thinks" is center. You would check your electronic scales to confirm 49 grains is really 49 grains when reloading, right?

Electronics are great, however, you always "trust" but verify.
