I'm running into a issue with my hunting rifle, win m70 in a edge HTG stock. I want to add a short arca rail for a tripod, but I don't was it to hang down and snag on my pack and gear.

Has anyone milled a recess in the forearm to add a 3" rail so that it all sits flush with the bottom? Would that take out too much structural strength? Could also go deeper and build it back up with fiberglass?

Anyone else start getting hammered the last week or 2?

How are you torquing the #2 action screw? It looks to me that you'd have to use a ball end bit but, wouldn't that make the torque required to meet the spec higher?

Saying it another way, do ball end hex bits apply the same force to the screw for a given torque setting on the wrench as a regular bit?

It's been a while since I've been here, but I finally got a nice rifle (SSG 69) and am in process of putting together funds for a NF ATACR FFP and recall that there was a member here who did nice reviews of optical products, a gentleman of Eastern European origin, IIRC. I am really getting the 22 rimfire bug and am falling into the black hole fast. I have a 10/22 style KIDD supergrade that I have dusted off out of the safe that I have really started to shoot alot and now I am thinking I want to go all out and getting a super nice bolt action. But now comes my question where should I start rife wise? I don't plan on winning any national matches I am just average Joe that really enjoys shooting rimfire and has an appreciation of fine craftsmanship in guns. I would like to dabble in some local NRL22/PRS matches but just for fun. I have been looking for a little while now at some of the used CZ's and Tikka's that come and go on this site as well as others but I also feel like if I go down this road why spend the money on that when later I might want a Vudoo or Rimx. So I guess my real question is for those that have gone down the rimfire rabbit hole is it better to just buy once and cry once and just go all out and get Vudoo/Rimx or would you say start slow and work your way up?

For some background I am coming from years of shooting competitively in the clay target world both NSSA, NSCA, and some ISSF skeet. So a DI precision barreled Vudoo with some super nice glass is not jaw dropping to me (when you compare that to what some of my clay target guns cost) but at the same time if something like a second hand $1500-$2k 455 with a Lilja barrel will get the job done then I would much rather go that route.
