I don't know how interested ya'll are, in this situation up here in Canada, but our Leader of the Opposition Andrew Scheer for the Conservative Party announced long ago that he is stepping down because the Conservative Party under his leadership did not win the last Federal Election. (mouthful there, eh?)

So, for the past number of months the Conservative Party has been sharing/inundating its members with the eligible candidates for the upcoming Party ballot. At one time, there was around a dozen nominations in the running. Ya'll can imagine the email and phone-call barrage that we Party members have been receiving.

I've conversed with a few, on the side via email and whatnot, but I actually had a phone-call from one in particular today. For what we DID speak about, I was happy and impressed with his answers and comments. Add to that, the things that he's stated publicly in emails regarding his stance, views, and decisions.... I think (personally) that the best candidate on the ballot for our Party Leadership is:

    Derek Sloan

Now, for the other 3 1/4 Canuckians that are on this site, as well as anyone else who's got any interest in this whatsoever.... I say like that dude sitting behind the table in the park with a coffee-mug in his hand:

    Prove me wrong!

Please, have at it. Go nuts. Our Country's FUTURE depends on it.

SEan where are you exactly in Canada? Sure keeping the dream alive I can do my annual trip to BC in July.....10% chance? Talking to my guide buddy's up there it's sounding slim.

Wish you all the luck in the world Sean.
I'm afraid the eastern parts have bred and imported enough idiots
to make it next to impossible to eject the likes of Trudumb.

@Sean the Nailer , I just read up a bit on Derek Sloan and he seems like a good candidate. It looks like he has some stones and wasn't afraid to call out Dr. Tam and isn't afraid of the nonsensical label, "transphobic". You guys could use someone to help counter Justine. Good luck.

I just wish Michelle Remple would run for CP leader. I honestly can believe Trudeau got voted back in... a potato would have been a better choice... I havent seen too much info on the conservative leader race.

I'm in Winterpeg Manisnowba, though I'm originally from B.C. Still plan on moving back there, one day....

Sloan and McKay have zero chances of winning leadership, and only the black female has any hope in hell of beating Trudeau.
Sloan is the new Bernier. Literally zero 0% of winning the leadership let alone an election.

I think that anyone who gets 3 1/4 votes in a Canadian election wins, right? It's not like there's many of you!

You guys need a Boris/Trump type. Someone who will galvanize that Correurs-du-bois spirit and start sending the Gerbils off to live back in France.

Canada has so much potential. Resources... smarts... Chilliwack. If you guys put your survival skills towards turning Ottawa into a smoking ruin and burning Quebec like a torch... you would have a world paradise.

By all means, you 3 should vote Derek and take over that place!

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

Sloan is a liberal pawn to appeal to the conservative that votes with their emotion instead of strategically. He can’t win. Just like Bernier cost us the minority by splitting the vote last cycle. If the 2% that voted Bernier had have voted Sheer, we’d have had a conservative minority.

You're not wrong, and Bernier is definitely what screwed us/up this country. Now, as it stands, why do you think/feel that Sloan is a LIEberal pawn?

Not a challenge, but an actual question. Please, show me what I'm missing so far.

    No problem at all.
From where I’m sitting, he hits too many of the traditional conservative talking points and just has canned responses for all his question. A yes man if you will, for the neo con.
I’ve had personal dialog with Leslyn and she has very well thought out answers. She’s educated. A doctor AND a lawyer. Sloan’s answers a effectively “yes. No.” By comparison.
When ask if he’d overhaul the firearms act, Sloan simply said, “yes.”
Lewis and O’Toole were much more thoughtful and calculated in their responses, acknowledging that it’s a convoluted cluster fuck of legislature that absolutely needs addressing.

Lewis being black and female will nab all the on the fence who aren’t happy with the turd, but don’t want to vote for another old white man.

There is no way in hell that I’d move from BC to Manitoba!!! I might move from BC to Alberta but that’s it. Some of the most beautiful country in the world through those two provinces!!
Tell me about it. I'm well aware of what I'm missing.

I've had a few email conversations with her as well, and up until today she was actually my 'front-runner'. Not having ANYTHING to do with the color of her skin, nor having ANYTHING to do with the fact that she's female. Just simply because I like how she thinks, speaks, and acts.

    (see what I'm doing here?)

    Dear Brock,
Last week I announced that as Prime Minister I would repeal the undemocratic and ineffective Liberal firearm ban.
The disrespect that Justin Trudeau showed for Parliament and for law-abiding gun owners is amazing.
    And there's more to come.
Media coverage broke over the weekend that revealed that there are more bans coming.
The facts remain: none of these Liberal policies will do anything to stop gun smuggling at the border, or keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
But here's another angle that Justin Trudeau likely hasn't considered at all.
These Liberal gun bans are yet another blow against the economy.
There are over 4500 small and medium-size businesses that sell firearms, and employ over 40,000 people across the country.
These businesses will now be stuck with large amounts of inventory that is suddenly illegal for them to sell or export. That includes ammunition that was used at completely legal gun ranges.
Businesses that cannot absorb these losses will need to cut jobs or shut down completely.
Remember when Justin Trudeau said that as Prime Minister he would stand up for jobs? That was his talking point when it came to why he was trying to interfere with the prosecution of SNC Lavalin.
The same concern doesn't seem to be there it comes to oil and gas jobs, and now anyone who makes a living selling firearms.

I have promised to review all of Canada's gun laws, to make sure they're actually helping protect the public from criminal activity. These bans will be repealed, and we will adopt a common sense approach to all other gun laws.
I believe in cracking down hard on smuggled firearms.
I believe in empowering police forces to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
I want to lead a government that respects legal gun owners in Canada, instead of one that treats gun owners with contempt and disrespect.
I promise to bring common sense back to Canada’s approach to firearms and review our firearms legislation to make it clear, practical and purposeful instead of adding more legislation to our already confusing laws.
Help me fight for law-abiding gun owners across Canada by making a donation today.
Together we can create a Canada lead with courage, compassion and common sense.
    Sincerely,

I do like how Derek sloan says what he feels, and isn't apologetic about it. I was hoping Pierre Poilievre had the will to go for it, I love watching him grill Trudeau in the house of commons and continue to ask the same question when those stupid liberals give their non-answers.

No matter who wins though, it's just another politician.

Sad, but true. Just once, I'd like to see "proper human conduct" in the elected seats. And especially with this coming (next) election, SO MUCH is going to be pivotal. If we make it that far.

We too need a house-cleaner. Or a HOUSE CLEANING, one or the other.

Hockey eh? Curling is fun. Sorry about your entire sham of a system of governance.
I live in Wisconsin, so curling jokes are really only between my state and your country.

I'm not Canadian, but don't trust Lewis.

She has left an opening in her replies by saying
    "
I promise to bring common sense back to Canada’s approach to firearms and review our firearms legislation to make it clear, practical and purposeful "

Trust me she will be making more laws that will be e restricting canadians right to firearms

Obviously you can’t put anything past a politician, but, she isn’t one, and, I don’t get that impression, and further, we will be her constituents, and the reason for her leadership in the first place. In my correspondence with her she’s made it clear that her aims are at criminals and those of us who jump through the legal hoops to have a firearms license.

Politicians tell people whatever they want to here until they get elected and often times totally reverse their stances once in office.

The race for me is Lewis then O'toole. If Lewis wasn't openly religious I would think she would be the ultimate candidate she will get the old tired conservative rhetoric jabs. Her not being born here might also hamper her since the dual citizen thing was a sticking point for Scheer. However I think she has the best chance. I do like O'toole though.
