I have been shooting a few matches the past couple years, and I’m gonna offer up this new classification.

I say we bust up levels by income.

We can have the Android shooters vs the IPhone shooters. The savage shooters vs the RPR shooters vs the Bergara shooters vs the APO shooters vs the totally I gots more fuckin money than all your asses total custom full sponsors rigs. Then we got the dudes that roll up in the Hyundai and Kias vs the the soccer moms mini vans with three crumb snatcher seats vs the the full “ get the fuck outta my way Ford Raptor bitches” We got the pack all your shit in a Walmart back pack vs the Kifaru , Mystery Ranch , Enerleestock. The bushnell lasers vs the “ I can see shit all the way to the equator Vextronix” The Swarovski spotters vs the Tasso. The Vortex PST vs the Tangent Theta. The “ let me buy a case of this custom factory shit cause I gots no time to reload” vs the holy crap I hope I can get this shit loaded by tomorrow before we leave.

Then we got the shirts vs the the “ well, maybe I can put off the new tires this month for the wife’s rig so I can pay the match fee for the shoot.

WTF? We are talking a PRODUCTION class below $2000 fuckin dollars. How the fuck does a 9-5 workin man expect to compete with this shit? A man gets up at 4 and works to 6 - 5 days a week and the has to take care of the family, and when he gets to the match he could finally pony up the fee he has to compete against this shit?

Somewhere in the mix the shooting world has gone the way of all other sports. What was initiated as a purest sport based upon skills, has bastardized itself to those who gots....and those that don’t. One can now buy their way into the prize table.

How about this for an example: back in the 50’s a dude climbed the highest mountain in the entire world with basic shit. He figured out the route and and made his own way and became the first human to stand on the highest point in all the earth. Today, if you can pony up 70- 80 grand, they will hold your hand to that same point and you can claim the same accomplishment.

Kinda the same shit with PRS .......

You know you can win with cheap equipment right?

People just choose not to shoot cheaper stuff.

Practice more and worry less about what someone else has. Or keep making excuses.

Not to mention, no one told you to get a shit job, start a family, and then not be able to afford shit else. There are guys with barely a HS diploma making 100k/yr nowadays.

Last time I looked in the equipment section I don’t recall seeing anyone shooting less than a custom rig with top top dollar gear winning. Precisionrifleblog.com

So, which one of those shooters won because of their gear? Your logic is a bit sketchy here.

Maybe, this one is more fitting...

I hope you’re trolling. 2/10 if so.

Bro! Seriously? My man is puttin that shit up cause he just wants to keep a record? He ain’t keeping track of what the Android , Kia drivin, Walmart sack dragging dudes is usin..... I believe the thread says “What the pros are using”

Does anyone actually take the PRB "What The Pros Use" articles seriously? I stopped caring about "what the pros use" some time back. They should retitle that line up of articles, "Which Company Has the Best Marketing Department".

Entry fee consists of a 12pack of great value brand soda, a pack of zesta crackers, and an expired can of tomato soup (Campbell’s brand is auto DQ).

You are totally right bro. I’ ll Take my podunk ass, grampy’s rifle to the local turkey shoot and leave all you high rollers sophistication bitches with the custom rigs and shirts to the the legitimate matches.

I knew it was going to be a shit show when the jerseys started. Nothing but a douche fest since, concentrating on only 30% of the total equation.

On the Scout forum, I had some jersey PM me and start talking shit because I thought PRS was a joke. Invited him to meet up and we'd do a land nav/night time shoot and daytime UKD shoot in the desert while moving across real terrain. Winner gets to punch the loser in the mouth at the end.

Somehow he didn't want to talk about shooting anymore.

I'm no operator, never served. Just a simple fire fighter/EMT for a local community. I shoot matches to hang out with friends and see if i've improved any from the previous match. Maybe if I'm fortunate enough to snag something from a table I was looking to buy, cool.

But I have zero fucks left to give about what shooter, uses what gear because X company has hired said shooter to represent them at matches.

I agree. It wasn't too long ago everyone had MIL/MOA 10x Leupolds and the 14x was a big deal.

Somehow we still managed to hit shit.

@TheGerman I remember the first time I went to the Hide Cup. Surgeon and Schmidt and Bender were the shit along with AI because they had released the AT and AX series. You weren't shit if you didn't have them

Then the next year it was Defiance and Vortex. You weren't shit if you didn't have them.

Then the next year it was Bighorn and Vortex. You weren't shit if you didn't have them.

Now all of a sudden you ain't shit if you aren't shooting an Impact and a Kahles.

It's laughable listening to some guy peddle products. Just go fucking shoot what makes you happy. For me that's an AI cuz I don't have to be poor somewhere else.

Poorest thing you’ve ever typed....

Seriously though, I don’t remember anyone ever even mentioning “fuck, why don’t these turrets match the reticle.” Though looking back, that’s probably proof of how retarded we were.

Entry fee consists of:

- 12 pack (or whats left) of PBR
- A current credit report
- EBT card that has at least enough to trade for a Faygo and some slim Jims left on it
- Your Cricket wireless statement
- Your story of woe, detailing how you are going to go back to school (and have been saying that for 15 years), how the 8 year payment on your truck outlasted your truck, why only you seem to get DUI's when everyone goes out, or how you'd manage to keep a job but always fail those damn drug tests and generally, why you are poor. Best story gets to fight a bum.

But wait, there's more!

Time reductions if you can provide the following:

- A valid college degree from an actual university -or- a legit tattoo that you have on your body, of a professional sports team or college that you never actually went to or played for
- A non-prepaid credit card
- Tattoos located either on your neck/throat or tattoos with womens' names on them. Multiplier if its multiple, different womens' names. Super multiplier if its pictures of the women.
- A receipt that you stopped at the Golden Corral on your way to the match
- Automatic trip to the chocolate fountain prize table if you had to bring your entire family with you to the match because, well, they all live in the van with you

The guys at the top aren't there because of the gear they use - they're there because they busted their ass and worked to do it. Good gear just means your gear isn't holding you back, but with the way the industry is going, even 'budget' rifles and optics are capable of winning matches in the right hands.

If you think buying a $5k custom rifle and another $2-3k in glass, plus thousands in other items is some kind of magic 'I WIN' button, I have bad news for you.

Dude got beat by someone in a match that he thinks shouldn't have but has nicer gear so hes blaming that. I see that being the route of this thread. Or he just thinks that hes being held back bc he cant afford better gear.

I've been smoked by people shooting RPRs when I was shooting my custom rifle. You know why? Because that person was better than me or was at bare minimum, having a better day that me. They probably practiced more than me. That's on me to change.

All the cops, firefighters and paramedics out there probably work weekends like I do. I can't take off 10 weekends a year to go shoot matches, but that's not the PRS's fault so you don't see me on here complaining that they need more Tuesday/Wednesday matches. It's a hobby. Go shoot what you have. There are plenty of high quality budget items out there that will do the job. I'm not winning matches and it's not a gear problem. I have an AI AT and Nightforce scope. It is 110% because I don't put the time into practicing like other guys are and it shows. End of story. I could suck with my Savage just as well as I do with my AI.

One can now buy their way into the prize table.
You probably won’t enjoy hearing this.

You’re not winning matches because you’re not a great shooter.
And you’re not a great shooter because your attitude sucks. If you truly believe that you can become great at anything by throwing money at it, quit now.

You might get a wind direction from Mother Nature if you toss a few dollars in the air at your next match.

Gentlemen, I began the thread as a bit of tongue and cheek. Calling out the absolute extravagant bits and pieces of gear brought into the “hobby” as some have called it. I did NOT call out any single person or group, yet a few have obviously taken offense, and KINDA, came back at me. I don’t know any of you dudes. For all I know you were the dude who when my shit went down, offered up your spare rifle.
However
Expensive gear ABSOLUTELY has taken over the sport and ABSOLUTELY offers an advantage to those who can afford it. The trend today is for a twenty pound rifle that one can rest atop a $100 bag with another $100 bag tucked under their arm. That’s $$$ bros. No one that I am aware is making a 20 pound production rifle. With that rifle a person can now line it up to the target with crosshairs on point and touch it off. Skill? Maybe a little, but certainly an equipment advantage. How does one get good? They fuckin shoot. They shoot their good shit or their poor shit or their reloads or their factory ammo. Where does one shoot? Well, if you are lucky enough to have a home range with some yardage, problem solved, if not, it’s to the range. Not too many ranges available with 1000 yds, steel, barricades, and the ones that are have yearly fees or high $$ charges for the day. That leaves the matches. Wanna get good? Shoot the matches! Oh yea, by the way, they average $200-250 per, and most require overnight travel. This is no fucking way a poor mans game. And the gear for those who can afford it adds a given advantage.
I ain’t butt hurt cause a dude with grandpas Remington .243 made my custom 6.5 Creed look like shit. I am a suck shooter, I will always be a suck shooter, and I don’t give a fuck that I’m a suck shooter. I enjoy the challenge, and seein all you dudes.
Go with the spirit of the thread, make sport of me and yourself, and admit that those with the means have an advantage over those that don’t.

Ummm, $250 matches are the “big leagues.” If there is such a thing in precision rifle.

Plenty of club matches that cost $60 or less and no overnight stay. A guy shot with us yesterday with a top load bdl 25-06.

Your post is like saying it’s expensive to play in the mlb.

If you have that option available to you, by all means take advantage of it. Unfortunately where I live there are few to none of the club matches. It requires travel and a few bucks. Too bad for me. The People’s Republic of Northern Virginia requires one to have a silver spoon hanging out of ones ass. ?

Poor people bother me.

Poor people expect us to feel sorry for them because they made shitty life decisions.
