When seconds count.....

good for him, and its great that he fired until the other guy dropped
that puts it all in perspective real quick
lot of good a weapon does in the safe downstairs

We had a horrible event where a lady ran a red and hit 14 people in a crosswalk a few christmases ago.

If you were to call 911, yu would not get an EMS response as they were all on PCH dealing with 2 life flight helicopters landing and everyone dealing with people scattered across PCH.

normally we have a fast 911 response time... but it is not a guarantee.... armed is good... realizing when you should drive a family member to the ER is also good

Fuck talking to the dispatcher after shooting. As soon as I fired I'm done talking to anyone. When a cop shoots they don't make a statement till 24 hours afterward and long after talking to the PD union attorney. To do less is retarded. Just say, "I'm very shaken up and scared, and I'll be happy to make a statement and talk to you when I've had a chance to calm down and talk to my attorney". If they give you any trouble ask them if they're involved in an officer shooting if they make a statement on the scene.

A leftist prosecutor will use anything you say on the phone or otherwise against you if you defend yourself with a firearm, and they've proven it over and over again. Even if the police are cool that is no guarantee that some berserk lawyer won't try to take your liberty permanently. There are enough horror stories out there I shouldn't have to elaborate.

sort of a 'good ending', but what can be done to prevent the situation from beginning, to begin with?

From an article about the break in it seems that there's an increasing transient population in the area, so things could be getting worse:

So, what I hear you saying is.... time to throw transients from the rooftops?

Not exactly what I was thinking, but that may be the path to take. Let us know. :D

Both times I've had to call 911 and was using a firearm to protect myself, a simple "I really don't want to shoot someone today, so you'd better hurry" seemed to expedite officers showing up at my doorstep. The first time I said this after a first call to 911 was met with "It's New Years Eve, officers are pretty busy right now, so we'll send someone as soon as possible", after a second call 5 mins later(with the above comments) the officers (magically) arrived 3 mins later.

Basically, I covered myself on the recorded 911 call, by stating "I didn't want to shoot someone, but if you don't hurry, we might have a mess on our hands".

Funny how a calm statement like that gets attention.
Either way, both times the Police arrived long after the perps had left the premises. I respect LE and the job they have to do, but make no mistake, you are responsible for your own safety. They are just there to clean up the mess afterwards most of times...

As the saying goes..."Be respectful, be polite...but have a plan..."

There is nothing unusual about the timeline. The only thing I don't like is telling the dude to disarm himself and walk out of the house. You will always get a response from police in an emergency. You won't always get approval for CAS, arty, or a timely QRF in the military. So, think about that. I'm just surprised being Washington that he wasn't charged because he could have simply jumped out a Window and permanently disabling himself.

in their defense you really dont want a stressed out guy who just shot someone walking around with a loaded weapon...but...see my post above

The last thing I'm going to do is walk through the area towards armed, stressed-out cops looking for an intruder. Identify yourself coming up the stairs and stick your badge through the door. Then I'll come out unarmed.

I would not show myself until daylight and a lot of witnesses are there, never forget the dude on the porch or the hotel hallway, or the couple in Houston getting gunned down and murdered by 5 criminal cops. Just heard the police chief here on the radio talking about how much the integrity HPD has,,, got me in a bad mood just listening to that lying POS.

And don’t forget about that Vietnam vet that shot the intruder then got shot and killed by the cops while standing over the body with his gun, in his house, after shining a light at the cops letting them know he sees em.

When I was a kid an HPD officer shot another kid 13-times with a revolver. At night. In the dark. In an abandoned warehouse. The kid was in possession of a bicycle. No shit.

U wuz born in bad mood, n u had over 12,800 relapses... just sayin... ???

Where I live you should expect he police response to be around 1/2 hour. We have Large bread dogs. If you kill them you still have not entered the house. I’m a light sleeper, so now you have. to come upstairs to get me, God help you. The stairs are my kill zone and you won’t make it past there

yep high ground and a fatal funnel is the key to success

And also the 64 year old man from upstate NY, who shot dead 2 thieving druggie POS's, and is now being violated and buggered by the state for his revolver being "unlicensed". With all the shit that has been happening for many years, including the cases that you mentioned and others, I have a strong feeling that as time goes on, more and more SD/HD shootings will not even involve police anymore. Would-be criminals should really take note from now on. Go on, break into that old, isolated farmhouse... Nobody's gonna turn down a couple hundred pounds of free hog feed...

I can't recall which exactly, but it's either "Snatch" or "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". Both are awesome movies, especially if you enjoy dry British humor. I think this is the second one (LSATSB), now that I think about it.

ETA: Just went and looked; it's "Snatch" (the first of the two movies)
