Almost half a century after mankind's ultimate mastery over fire came in the form of five titantic Rocketdyne F-1 engines turning 3000 gallons of kerosene and liquid oxygen into 7 million pounds of thrust every second, propelling the 38 story high Saturn V rocket and the Lunar Exploration Vehicle on to the surface of another planet and into the pages of mankind's ultimate scientific accomplishments, NASA is preparing to meet and exceed these same records with their new monster SLS (Space Launch System).

Consisting of a massive main core powered by 4 Rocketdyne RS-25 space shuttle engines fueled by liquid hydrogen and oxygen and two SRBs (solid rocket boosters) generating a whopping 11.6 million pounds of maximum achievable thrust, the SLS module is at the forefront of NASA's operation to put US astronauts back onto the moon with a single launch. The SLS is also capable of carrying more than twice the amount of payload as NASA's current heavy lifter single rocket, the Antares, and will likely be the primary tool for future Earth orbit station and vehicle construction for further missions into interplanetary and even interstellar space.

Patiently waiting for my invite to be part of the crew

If this is a government project, shouldn't we be useing an electiric rocket. Maybe one powered by wind turbines and solar panels. Doesn't this go against "The Green New Deal"? I am confused.

After watching the test videos, I am like WTF? The government can do this and I get my ass in trouble for burning a used tractor tire. Fucking hypocrits. Don't get me wrong, I think that this is cool, but everyone once in awhile a bro should be able to burn a discarded tire now and then.

OK.. I will be the self elected negative asshole here . It's all dressed up and pushed to you like sugar donuts of exploration, cosmic adventure, and advancement of the human condition .
BullFuckingShit .. The Moon is Rich to Rape Minerals-$$$$, at the cost of your Tax dollars and sweat. I really believe ZERO profits of doing you will ever see . Along with part-2 of this sugar coating ... Mars .
This is not your Dream . This is the Dream-$$$$ of large scale Corporate owed Strip Mining, and ownership of ALL physical and intellectual property attached to .

Actually, I am fine with that. New resources is new resources...

Save the Earth! We'll pave that last.

Sounds awesome, but engineers use metric systems 90% of the time.

And look what happens when they do...

Well ..you and I, along with humanity are not going to benefit from these newfound Moon missions, with You taking that skip the light fandango attitude . I have seen what happens when Corporate passes off their in-house programed company shill android, disguised as a doctor, and Put onboard a Lunar strip mining operation. Only to smuggle unwanted Alien on with a acid filled vascular system onto the facility mining ship for Corp. ownership and quick resale profit to the Fed. to be used for a Bio-weapons research, 'most likely' in a CCP Wohan lab . It's Not Pretty .

Isn't that how monkeypox started? By the way there is a Russian movie called Sputnik about this very thing (alien bio weapon) pretty good. (yes its in Russian so subtitles )

I can't believe they used the Mustang badge on those things.
GM is probably watching and thinking: man, an electric SUV Camaro sounds awesome...🙄

Meanwhile, Dodge is stuffing Hellcat engines in minivans. 🙂
And five minutes after you wrote this, Dodge announced they were dropping Charger and Challenger to focus on EV’s.

    Ghey!!!

    FROM THE SHUTTLE TO SLS:

A bit of insight into the Rocketdyne RS-25 hydrogen-oxygen engine. These same engines powered the Space Shuttle all through the entirety of the Shuttle program, and they make up the core of the SLS as well. Fueled by liquid hydrogen and oxygen, the RS-25's exhaust is almost completely invisible during daytime launches and produces only water as it's byproduct, and a lot of water.

How the RS-25 differs from the kerosene burning F-1s on the Saturns and Titans, and how a RS-25 is ignited:

Let's also give a shout out to the SRBs. For some reason NASA doesn't like to highlight these bad boys, but they are the most powerful engine ever deployed. (And its not even close)

Block I Boosters are basically shuttle boosters with an extra segment.

So if I understand it correctly this is the test of the rockets for the new "diversity, equality and inclusiveness" mission to the moon?

Yes, that is the social media and news advertised propaganda PSA, put out for the special woke crowd .

They have built a new area at the proving ground in Michigan for testing EV self driving cars.

My sister works in Fleet management there, earlier this week she got to ride in an 1100hp awd Lucid. She has driven, demons, hellcats, track hawks and drove one of the last 4 test vipers before it was scraped.

She said that Lucid made her heart skip a beat. Never felt anything like it...

What I cant believe is, I havent seen, or heard, of anything on the major news about this!

We are going to the Fing Moon!

I remember the day when the whole country would unite over an achievement like this!

No, the HIppies complained about the environment. The socialists said it should be used to feed the poor. The negro's were upset because it was white people and wasn't helping the Ghetto's.

Only the "Pro American" news back then made it look like the trip to the Moon united the world.

There where plenty of anti-American scum who wanted it spent on free cheese and not science and engineering that advanced us as a species....

The Facebookers and tick tac crowd are too self absorbed to appreciate anything that doesn't show up on their phones...

For fucks sake, we have a remote control helicopter on fucking MARS!

Maybe we need the Mars rovers to take selfish of their buttholes to get these useless fucks interested... I dunno

Well.........obviously she never spent an evening with me. I would give her feelings that she never felt before.😂
What pity? Nausea? Married with kids and grew up with 3brother... she’d probably bruise your ego after she broke your nose.

Question- nearly $1 billion and 10 years to build a fucking rocket , to go to the moon?? Couldn’t they dust off the old moon landers from the 60’s and send them back again? Surly it would work and be safe - they e been there several times - cheap, easy, safe and Retro- I know there is a large segment of the hide that like retro!!!

That's not how big pork projects to keep the big players happy work.

COUNTDOWN TO LAUNCH: TWO MORE DAYS

In the meantime, an ode to everything that made this possible:

RECAP: The final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-132 on May 14, 2010. The final launch of an icon of more than 30 years of the post-Apollo space mission research and development, carrying a crew of 6 astronauts on a mission to dock with the International Space Station delivering a payload that included a Russian Rassvet Mini Research Module, a repaired robotic arm for reattachment back onto the station's manipulator assembly, and a collection of normal experiments designed to test microbe resistance of various in-production and concept spacesuit material. This launch marked the twilight of the Shuttle program as the Atlantis would be permanently retired afterward. However, the engines, vehicle assembly, and rocket configurations developed for the Shuttle program would be instrumental in accelerating NASA's next generation super-heavy payload system, the SLS, which will perform it's maiden flight two days from now.

    SPACE SHUTTLE TRIVIA:

    * Over FIFTY concept space planes, including ones that could take off like a regular jet and then switch to rocket power, had been proposed, and some prototypes even tested before the final design and approval of the Shuttle was set in place in the late 1970s.

    * The Space Shuttle fleet were NASA's first attempt to lower the cost and material consumption of every space launch and make space missions as routine and affordable as airline travel eventually. In the year leading up to the Challenger disaster, NASA proposed to make at least one Shuttle launch per month, paving the way for large scale orbital construction projects to becoming reality.

    * A Space BUS variant of the Shuttle had been developed with a 76 seat passenger capacity in the converted cargo bay but never tested or used. This had been intended to ferry construction crews to and back from the large orbital space station rings that aerospace engineers predicted will be built on large scale beginning in the 1990s.

    * The regular Shuttle is a space plane designed only for low Earth orbit operations, but another concept design in the early 1980s had been proposed for making lunar flights, and possibly even further. This consisted of a conversion kit which transformed the existing Shuttles' cargo bays to accomodate batteries of fuel cells and oxidizer tanks for sustained use of the RS-25 main engines after the external tank had been discarded after launch. Expanded crew sleeping and isometric exercise quarters - essential for maintaining muscular and bone health in zero gravity conditions - are also part of this kit. Like most other Shuttle concept alterations, this kit had survived into the prototype phase, but never implemented or tested due to extreme weight concerns after the Challenger disaster.
