16-18 inch shorty rifles

will probably depend on the bullets you want to use. The high bc stuff would definitely be better out of the creed unless you throat the 243. They both use same powder so the other thing to me would be brass availability and price.

Looking to do an 18” 6 creed, interested to hear the input you get.

I did a 17” 243 youth model and don’t really feel it’s worth it. Max load of 4350 and 105s was getting 2700fps. It was a fireball. It just has too much overbore. Had an 18” 6.5x47 that was a little more amenable was getting 2800-2850 out of 123s and 2700 out of 130s.

For short guns i still really like the 308. My XM3 is almost done I’ve ran the numbers every which way from Sunday between what i should be getting with 168gr TMks at 2650 or so versus the aforementioned load of my 6.5x47 and inside 600yds the 308 just takes it for my purpose which is hunting.

My deal behind the the short 234 would be for my son and wife for hunting suppressed with it being short help with oal with supressor on there and then also use it for coyotes so run some 65gr vmax out of it and then hunting run the 95-100gr out of it

For that purpose it’s adequate for sure.

I’ve been happy with my 16” 243 suppressed. Shot a coyote with it 2 nights ago at 250 yards using 58gr v max at 3500 fps. I mainly run 87gr bthp at 3050 it does well out 600 yards. It’s a tikka so twist rate won’t allow me to run any heavier than that which is fine. I have other guns for past 600 yards. With the 16” barrel and a 4” can I’m right at 20”. My buddys 16” 6 creed pushes 105s at 2800fps.

Very nice, what is your 16" chambered in, and who made the prefit? It seems like the Origin prefits on Proof's website are all on the longer side, so I'm curious who folks are going to for the shorties.
I had the same issue, went with Carbon6 to get a custom length that I wanted. They can do prefit chambers if you call.

16" Carbon6 6.5cm prefit
26" Proof 6.5cm comp prefit
24" Proof 7SAUM prefit

Glad I could help. I got 2 243win tikkas for $800 I set the other one up with a $200 Boyd’s stock and had the barrel shortened to 20”. Then bedded it myself and sold it to a friend.

I personally would try X Caliber first, I’ve personally handled 5 Carbon6 prefit barrels and 3 of them needed to go back and get fixed. Even then they all seem to run slow and pressure up faster than other barrels I have used.

The X Caliber on the other hand is lighter than the Carbon 6 despite being a smaller bore and a larger contour. Still working on the load but it’s giving good speed and good accuracy with very little work up.

Did you opt for Cryogenics?

I am having a 18" 6 creed spun up for my Tikka for my night time thermal rifle. I have 500 87gr V-max and some Lapua srp brass waiting here for the barrel. Hoping to hit 3000 fps or better with them. I have H4350, Rl16, 4166, 4451, and Varget on hand. What powder are you using for your 87 gr load?

3k will be easy. I run 108 elite hunters at 3080 from a 22" supressed 6cm. Ita a ruger American predator, so gurantee you'll have a better barrel.

Finished putting my shorty 6 creed together this after. ARC Archimedes action with 18.5 inch threaded benchmark barrel spun up by Travis at TS Customs. Got a Triggertech 2 stage diamond and currently in a Krg Bravo. May change to a Manners eventually when funds are more available. Will have an Optika 6 3-18x56 Mrad mounted here soon. And maybe just maybe my 2nd suppressor will be approved and in hand soon (certified 3/2/22).

Left hand SA700 in 260 Rem with a 16" barrel. I've since replaced the 4x Kahles with a 2-12 Athlon FFP.

Shoots 123 SST to the same 100m zero as 156 Norma Oryx, so close and less close shots are sorted.
How do you like the 2-12 been looking hard at them would like one on a coyote rig.

EXCEPT for China....really like it.
The adjustments are reliable and match the reticle. The glass is good enough and I like the reticle. There is a thread on the optics section where some knob has a moan about the .3 mil dot, but for killing stuff it is great. At 600m it is 180mm or 7" at 660 yards - put it on the front part and stuff dies.
I've got two mates who have bought one after seeing mine.

Concur, I have the Helos BTR Gen 2 2-12x on my Sig Cross and it is an excellent value, kind of want another one for my 6ARC.

did you cut the original barrel down? or get it rebarreled

details please, i am thinking of building something similar.

I had the original barrel cut from 20" to 18" and threaded 5/8 on it again.

Stock is a boyds pro varmint.

The day I brought it back from having the Smith bed it, I had to pack and leave for work the next day. I haven't been able to shoot it.

Although if I could change one thing on it, it would be to use 2 piece scope base/rings. The picatinny rail that I used in combination with those rings are good. However, loading from the top is a bitch with such little space that there is.

Bottom metal is from Oregunsmithing. There's no way in hell I would have kept the factory bottom plastic and mag. Most people don't have problems with theirs, but I built this rifle to give my dad for hunting. I didn't want him to have any issues!

Huge fan of prefits, goes from 22# 26" PRS rifle to a 8.5#16" hunting rig.

16" Carbon6 6.5cm, Origin SA, Grayboe Phoenix & DBM, Nomad w/ A419 mount, TT special, Hawkins hunter mag.

Great trip to the range breaking this in and doing powder ladders. While it was virgin brass, very happy with the Carbon6 barrel. Nothing to write home about, .5-.75 MOA groups with a brand new barrel, virgin brass, and no seating depth test with both bullets loaded around .0030 off at ~ 2.8500 COAL.

16" 6.5CM Carbon6 w/ Nomad-30
130gr TMK - started to have very flat primers at 43.3gr h4350 going 2760fps, will likely settle with 42.8gr doing 2700.
140gr ELD-M - very flat primers at 42.8gr going 2680fps, will likely stick with 42.2gr doing 2625.

Will likely stick to the 130s for hunting, but nice to have a better BC option available for not much speed penalty.

It seems like lighter projectiles are the ticket for short barrels.
