I'm in Munich right now and I've spent the last week and change in London and Athens. I've been sporting flannel and a Coleman's Creek hat most of the trip. I suspect that might be part of the reason why I've been asked half a dozen times whether or not I voted for Trump. When I confirm the reaction is never positive. I've never asked any foreigners in the US who they voted for in their home country, as frankly, I don't give a shit. It seems like everyone wants to talk about American politics. Waiters, shop owners, cabbies etc.

Today I took a tour of a castle and on the way the tour guide was talking about the suspicious death of Ludwig II. The tour guide asked the group if anyone could guess who his heir was and I blurted out "the Clintons." It went over like a fart in church. I get that socialism is en vogue here, but lighten up a little.

    You're IN EUROPE, bro..

What the hell did you expect?

Their version of a hero is a gay porn star who wears the same green shirt every day as he is shit talking to Russians while simultaneously gobbling WEF cock like he and Kamala are having a competition.

Oh I get it. This isn't my first time across the pond. Whatever. Do your socialism thing. I'm just here for a little shopping and schnitzel and I'm out.

It's the desire to talk about American politics that's flooring me. Why the hell does Hansel the bellhop think I would want to take time out of my day to hear a lecture about how orange man is bad while I'm on vacation with family 5000 miles away? Just keep an eye on the toilet paper and towel situation and we're good.

When I was traveling through Canadia on the way to Alaska in 2019, I was at the Liard Hot springs in B.C. I was talking to a lady while soaking. American politics came up (don't remember how) and I confirmed I voted for, and felt that Trump was a great president. She said she didn't feel the same way, but was very respectful, and we just moved onto another topic. Why everyone can't do that, is beyond me. The world could be a great place, but some folks just choose to shit on everything.

The rest of the world, including Russia (maybe not so much China), are financially dependent on the USA. That's why they pay attention to us. Nobody has paid their responsibilities for NATO, weather and other earthly catastrophes. Trump is the only one to tell them to cough it up.
I'm in agreement with those before-mentioned: they can all go pound sand (except Israel).

Europe is the land of cunts, assholes and she-men, get used to it. The average "European" is a sniveling pussy who is utterly dependent on social welfare and government freebies to survive. Any one brave or bold was killed in their endless wars of the last 300 years. They have effectively eliminated things like courage, bravery, intelligence, cunning and inventiveness from their gene pool. If it wasn't for tourists coming to Europe to look at it like Egyptian pyramids, they would have very little to crow about.

Any bold American makes them cry a little or beg America to save them from themselves AGAIN.

I was deployed to France for 4 months back during the war. We had a small four plane tanker operation to refuel aircraft over the Med when gutless Europeans denied them overflight privileges on their way to the middle east. We lived in local shitty French hotels, usually owned by assholes and we ate at local places, only two actually liked Americans.

One day we are walking out of the grocery store to the car and my buddy was talking to me in English, quietly. A frog across the aisle is eves dropping and promptly walks over and asks, "Are you Americans? I reply, "yes". He loudly says, "I hate George Bush!!!" puffs out his chest and smiles. I replied, "George Bush hates you too!!!" He had a look of sudden horror, how had George Bush found out about him??? WTF??? He looked like he was in real trouble. He took a minute to realize that I probably wasn't W's representative in France. He then and proudly said, "I hate Israel and love the Palestinians!!!" I replied, "Me too, Yassar Arafat is my hero." The Frenchy glowered for a minute, sighed and walked away defeated.

While we are driving my buddy asked if I really hated Israel? I said, "Hell no, but that sure as hell ended that argument didn't it?" Avoid misery and do not engage them, it confounds them. Remind them that Texas is as big as Europe and we have 49 more states after that one.

    Israel isn’t in Europe….

Trump should them all the person in the mirror is the one to look to first for the troubles you have.No one likes being shown that and thus the hatred.

Why the Europeans believe our government should look out for them is idiotic. ALL elected governments should serve their own best interest first. If our interests align and we are allies, fantastic. Each nation should be responsible for itself. It seems to be that socialism is just shared misery and foreign governments are more than happy to point the finger elsewhere to distract from their own shortcomings. This global government BS needs to die on the vine.

I wish we had a tally for every dime we sent them since WW2.

I call BS on this thread because a "SnipersHide"er:
    1) Will never be caught in a blue state, much less travel outside of the US.
    2) Will never be caught in a foreign nation during US election week.
    3) Will never tour a castle.
    4) Will never sport a flannel and Coleman's Creek cap that basically "unhides" oneself, especially in Europe.
    5) Will never waste money on an European trip, but will instead buy more ammo.

Jokes aside, who cares what they ask and how they feel.

Due to "Belt And Road", the Chinese Communist Party probably already controls 40-60% of European politics via financial incentives. The Chicoms can roll over much of Europe if they want to. The day MAGA comes back in isolationist, 'USA Only' form will be Europe's worst nightmare...

we've bailed europe out 3+ times in the 20th. their civilization is done thru their own fault and they know it. hate us for what success we've had. my history alternative idea has always been that we should have pulled out of mainland europe in'45 and let the sovs have it. retain england as an aircraft carrier is all. they couldn't control eastern europe very long and having the rest of it to control would have bankrupted them sooner. in fact the discussion about why we never should have been fighting in europe in '17 or '42 is a whole other discussion.

I love all the opinions on Europe from people who have never lived or worked there (private sector). We bought groups of companies based in western and Eastern Europe and every place has it own unique character and regulations for businesses - some more challenging than here and some better but I wouldn’t call it socialist. (Some local government issues had a socialist mindset though and closing one location in particular was very expensive!). Embedded social programs - yes - but we have them here too. They definitely have their issues and aspects of their politics that I’m glad we don’t have here. That said, there are aspects of their culture that I found to be good And some things they do better than us IMO.

I agree their interest in US politics is a real thing though. I’d often be at lunch, dinner, etc with local colleagues and was surprised by their knowlege of our political systems and politicians even at the state level. Frankly, they pay more attention to US politics than the average US citizen and likely are more informed than many here. Why? I don’t know. We are a great country and they watch what we do like much of the world. They view some of our politics as crazy just like we view the politics of other countries at times.

likely true. but we have/had no reason to invest trillions of $ and .5M+ lives in protecting them and letting them keep their screwed up politics and "culture" safe and intact with having scant skin in the game. we have our own things to fix.

    It's a combination of things.

First off, they watch American politics kind of like a real life soap opera. It's sort of like watching a real life 'Wives of Beverly Hills' or some BS show like that.

Second off, if you think OUR media is bias, you ain't seen nothing yet.

My post may look suspicious as I just created my account, but I wanted to chime in the conversation. Long time lurker on this website, red hundreds of threads (nah not only threads in GD/bear pit). I'm living in the middle of Europe, in Switzerland, and I understand pretty well what the OP experienced. That's something I experience in a weekly basis around here. If I were American, not only I would be proud of it, but I would have probably voted Trump, so yea, there is that. I suppose that's like everywhere, you have to find like-minded people, and unfortunately I lot of folks in EU are fed by the mainstream media propaganda. In some countries like France, there is a big anti-American sentiment that is fueled by some political currents (I will let you guess which one). People don't do their homework, and take every bits of mis-information as gospel. That was particularly the case when the "orange/bad man" was in office. That sticks and people immediately associates Americans in Europe with some category/tags, whatever etiquette. Personally, I don't care who you voted for, and after all that's none of my business. Now regarding to socialists, yea, that's an ideology (or illness) that's is really prevalent in Western Europe, and the upcoming economical situation won't help at all, that will make things even worst.

They hate Trump for trying to make them accountable for their own security and wanting to stop their pilferage of our nations wealth.

Fuck them and their pompous attitudes. They are reaping what they sow right now. I hope that whole continent goes back to the dark ages.

They were better off when Trump was around, they just won’t admit it but in private they all know it.
Europe in the late 80s was a great thing for an American to experience.

You were identified as American by your shoes mostly. wear a set of New Hampshire made Timberland boots and they were in lust.

In Helsinki I was told by a local as they celebrated their independence day we were lucky as we had real freedom. Finland could not be free with Russia as a neighbor and the envied America for living without threat.

I was in Geneva when the wall came down and it was something to see the happiness in Europe and appreciation for America.

It was a bigger world back than though. A lot has changed as technology has shrunk the circumference of the globe figuratively if not literally.

I only read the first post so forgive if someone already covered this.

There are a few issues. First, even “conservative” Europeans are raging socialists. Second, no one- neither American nor European, or anyone else- gives a shit about the leaders of Europe. Third, regardless of what the think tanks and talking heads say, the US President is still the most powerful office in the world. I think this addresses the questions of why Americans don’t typically ask others who they voted for, why Europeans care who Americans voted for, and why ‘Trump voters’ are denigrated abroad.

By the way, you are more than welcome to my country. if you need a guide let me know in PM.

Sincerely wish to return to Geneva at some point in time but no desire to do Europe anytime soon in this environment.

Spent a lot of time drinking at the Lord Nelson in Geneva and for fun would hike the Jura just over the border in France.

I wonder if France still fills the small flower urns marking where Maquis fighters were killed, I want to stand again on Le Dole as I only learned later Heinz Guderian did same and commented upon looking down at Geneva in his book Achtung Panzer. To the east of Le Dole there is another high point with a monument to an aviator that crashed there in the early age of aviation, the sheer cliff below it is habited by chamois.

Pretty country - keep your guns, your neutrality and fuck Schengen.

As horrendous as our media is, it's not even remotely close to as bad as it is in Europe.

Here, conservatives are portrayed as mentally handicapped... sort of like the missing link between humans and modern day primates. I can't even begin to describe the level of condescension involved. If the entire population of Europe is exposed to this for the duration of their lives it's a whole lot easier to understand why this side of the world is moving in the direction it is.

It's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen and I hope to God we find a way to avoid this in the states. To say it's Orwellian is an understatement. It's that bad.

Current self-induced deindustrialization of Europe on the behest of US MIC spawned a bunch of new jokes.

Austrian humor: The difference between 1942 and 2022 is that the Germans don't have to go all the way to Stalingrad to freeze.

Eastern European humor: It's better for the Russians to shut off the gas than for the Germans to let it go.

Slovak humor: Dežo wakes up in the winter and the apartment is very warm. He grabs the radiator - it's hot. He opens the water tap - the hot water comes out. He turns on the gas - the gas flows. An upset Dežo shouts: "Aranka, get up! The communists are back!”

Czech humor: A husband brings a hare he caught outside to his wife's kitchen and gloating greedily he shouts: "Prepare it into cream!" Wife: "There's no gas." He: "So bake it in the oven!" She: "There's no electricity either." The husband gets angry and throws the eared one back behind the fence. The hare stirs and shouts: "Glory to Ukraine!"😆

''Thirty years ago we asked how to catch up with the standard of living of the West, and today we ask how to return to the standard of living of thirty years ago.''

''The prices of flour and breadcrumbs have risen so high that manufacturers are thinking of putting meat in sausages again.''

I hang out with a bunch of Open Source FlightSim folks from all over the world and have run a multiplayer flight virtually every Saturday night for over ten years. Our forum is based in the UK and every Saturday evening for over a decade we have coordinated with virtual pilots from literally all over the world. I work at developing virtual aircraft with these folks and we have become fast friends, best friends over the years. And while working together and drinking and playing online together we have shared information about all manner of things. I know their families better than some of my siblings....we talk about food and medical care. We talk about cars and politics, fuel and social norms. We talk about everything and share all manner of personal information as we are all friends.

I am constantly amazed at the bullshit Americans believe about the EU and UK and other parts of the world including Canada and South American countries.

Most of them understand American politics better than most Americans. Frankly I prefer the company and exchange of information and ideas with EU and UK folks much better than Americans. Folks abroad seem to want to discover and compare/learn/exchange. People in America want to tell/dominate/exploit and control. Americans have to be right or they are pissed. Most folks I know from other places are much happier on average with much less than most Americans.

Not impressed with most Americans I meet online - extremely impressed with Scots, English, French, German, Italian, Canadian, Irish, and even folks from South America that I meet and coordinate with. I think 80 years ago America was all that and a bag of chips and then we started to get.....stupid, rude, and aggressive like the whole world belongs to US. Which is why The Rest of The World is so interested in what happens here. We possess the largest military and largest nuclear force in the world and are the only ones to have used nuclear weapons in aggression. I think the rest of the civilized world has done well to worry about US fucking it all up when we all think we already own it all and run everyone else's destiny. They think we are nuts.

    Not sure we aren't.

After WWII, the US essentially said “relax Europe, we’ll take care of international security.” Europe said “cool, we’re gonna slowly become commies.” Until Europe kicks in a proportional amount to international security (trade on the high seas), they can all sit down and shut the fuck up.

No. Ask them who leads their country. When they begin to reply, interrupt them and remind them than no one cares.

You nailed it pretty well. As an example tonight 11pm GMT+1 on a French TV channel, called 'M6', there is a "documentary" on the current US issues between the conservatives and the liberals/progressive (woodenness, LGBTQIZP1+1=69). Will probably watch it for 5 minutes, until I figure out they will take side with the libtards. They always portray the conservative as mentally unstable, not rationale and even worse as 'dangerous' for society. This kind of shitshow is broadcasted every 2 weeks on the French TV.

Don’t try to understand Europe. I’ve been trapped here for almost three years. As an American, there’s zero reason to try. It’s essentially a white Middle East that thinks it is developed.

If the US left this continent, it would be right back to being at war within a year. That said, we should leave NATO and let them deal with the consequences of their actions.
