While I admire your ability to remain optimistic, I think it's foolish to think it can be fixed in the acceptable fashion. There are some good ones out there that believe in protect and serve. Perhaps I am optimistic because I am "mostly rural and small town". I am close to Kansas City, and that is on a fast track to every other big city hell hole.....and some of that does drift this way.

In talking to the people in the area where I work, and in the city I think your percentages are wrong. You could be basing your numbers on what the press wants you to see. You never see the day to day good and only so called bad. Sure there are some bad people, they are people. Where I am a very dim view is taken on that side of things, and I doubt it will change in the next few years.

Absolutely! All of the above are ideal, but the most beside #1, most important #2 -Election DAY. The fact that Florida got away with it is a mute point, extended elections are used by some people to CHEAT. If it means enough to you - you get your ass out to vote! Even if you ass is broken like mine - you will still do it. I am 100% for making it a national holiday, (we have holidays for less important things) so there is no excuse.
