LOL do people actually shoot anymore?

Yeah but tbac covers thar. Iq. So Harris only wins light cheap and slim lol

Dude.
Thats funny.

a Harris I got for $75 or $100 used with a KMW podlock vs $450

Lotta ammo with that (esp with the $17/20 deal on FGMM back in the day).

Or back when that $350 bought you 8 lbs of powder, case of primers, and a good number of bullets. About enough to shoot that 8 lbs easy.

I still shoot a 700 in a stock though….
With a genuine poors scope. 🤣

Shooting is one thing, shooting with purpose is another thing, practice for competition, self defense or hunting. Too many people just want to hear the gun go boom. I always have a plan when I shoot, i.e. what am I working on today. One of the guys I work with bought a Ruger precision rifle, came in after his day off and said, I shot my rifle yesterday . I asked him how he did that, since I had the scope he was buying from me to go on it. He said I just shot it into the berm about 10 times, just to hear it go boom.

And it does not have to be "work".

One of my great joys is playing cowboy. I have a heritage single action and I will stand down there and just have such a great time. Beep.......ding. How long was that. BEEP.....ding......ding, how long was that. I did this quite a bit at the start of the "shortages". Do you know how long it takes to go through a box of 50 doing that. There are days when I did not even do that, I ran out of gas.

I guess you could say I was "working" on something, but it was pure fun for me. I am not going to be Bob Munden or anything, but it is still so much fun playing cowboy.

I also play with other drills, another fun thing to do is shoot qualifications for different alphabet agencies. This is usually quite fun and you don't need a lot of space to do it. If you are limited to public ranges it is likely out. But it is still fun. Ammo is a little more expensive/hard to get/whatever. But still fun. And yea I guess you are working on something there to.....perhaps it is your mind set.

Harris one major benefit is folding up slimmer than other bipods. Nice for truck/equipment rifles that go in and out of tight cases
I like that they can be deployed rapidly.
For the most part, IRL, I use my backpack or a rock or a stump far more often than a bipod.

Have you used a good tripod ? Ranks up there with the top purchases that improved field hits on target.

I have an Atlas. It's a decent bipod. As far as actually using a bipod, I rarely find them to be useful, hence the statement regarding use of a backpack. Funny how you post pics of your shit on tripods while discussing bipods. You may not be making as good of use of cytoplasm as E. coli does.

I’m gonna go ahead and figure that’s an insult.

Il brag on tripods all day any day I wish I would have got a nice one 20 years ago instead of more guns.

That and thermal and rf bincoulars

Edit. Cheap and expensive tripods are night and day of usability and stability

Ever since I was 16 years old and shot a crow on a tree branch at 140 yards with a borrowed Ross rifle
while deer hunting with two much older friends I knew I was going to like this shooting shit.

And I still love it and shoot every chance I get. And yea I was shocked more than they were that I actually hit that unlucky bird that day.
I was about 14. I was sitting on our back step with my dad and uncle. A black bird landed on the top of a 40ft tree about 100 yards out. My dad new I was a good shot and told me to hit the bird. Pumped it up a probably 10 times..shot and knocked that bird outta that tree. My dad said see to my uncle. My uncle stood there with his jaw dropped. I just set the gun down and played it off, like what's the big deal. It was a pretty sweet shot with a BB gun I have to say.

Few people could follow or have one to follow, a structured learning and training plan. Your student brought commitment and effort but the secret sauce here is the progressive plan. Even training courses like Hide and others rarely get beyond the basics of shooting, the bare bones mechanics. Observation and notation under different conditions, working backwards from the intended outcome for kit, preparation and up skilling are never covered or laid out with a how-to on practicing intelligently.

In the vast majority of cases people just enjoy plinking. It’s when plinking is confused with being a rifleman and when what you can do with a gun is how you see yourself as a man that the retarded opinions and behavior comes into things.

I find it interesting to see the differences between the UK and the US when it comes to shooting. As it's such a pita to get into it in the UK most gun owners are gun guys, hunters or target shooters, plinkers soon get bored shooting holes in paper.

We have less of the fun stuff at the top end, a lot of restrictions, but we don't have randoms just buying stuff and pretending they know what they are doing. Ok maybe a few "experts", easier to do with the internet but also easier to spot with the internet ;)

But how many doves can you hit? Running rabbits?
Anyone want to go a round of skeet and see how many hits you can get?

This guy will take you up on that. And, he shoots more than most in this thread. I know, because I pay his ammo bill…
Good times. It's something I do for fun and keep the reaction for rabbits and dove in tune. Being left eye dominant and right handed is not optimal for me in that game.
Everyone wants to be a sniper and it may be a good skill but realistically CQB skills and... Well, stuff that is frowned upon here are more realistic needs.

And likely bought the shotgun with a lack of triggers but an appropriate amount of barrels that are unfortunately stacked instead of SxS as God intended.

Nice gun, I bet he can shoot the hell out of it. Not involved at all myself, but watched a buddy’s kid a few times and I’m super impressed with the youths involved in shotgun sports in particular. Great gun handling and I bet your boy and many others, plus most of the girls, can make me look like a fool with my Fudd gun. I was damn good for a kid 25 years ago, the kids these days would clean my clock.

at the rate I am burning through primers I sure as hell hope I am shooting . I sure reloaded enough the last couple of days .

In my younger years, I shot 2-3 times per week. As I’ve gotten older, the age/injury piper has begun collecting what he’s owed and I’m slowly turning into the guy I used to make fun of.

Recently discovered PRS and even that can be a challenge. I try to practice once a week but tend to skip inclement weather days, or days when the injuries flare up past a certain point. Those are the days I typically do something in the reloading room. Another recent discovery for me.

It sucks being a has-been, but I’ll always enjoy the culture. Lots of decent people.

Take him out for a round with a pump shotgun. It makes it fun to get on the second shot.
We had plans for him to shoot the pump gun event at nationals, but it fell mid week and we didn’t want to make 2 trips out there. But, he was going to shoot his g-grandpa’s winchester 97. That full choke will really smoke a clay.

I shoot enough to know what I can't hit or what I will struggle to hit

When I miss what I know I should be able hit is when I know I need to practice more ;)

I run into a lot of people that never shoot rifles more than 100 yards
and
never shoot pistols more than 7 yards

They think anything long distance is all luck or not possible :D mostly because they have never done it.

I went to a 1000 yard range with a friend of mine, he brought his 70 year old father that had been shooting 100 yards his entire life. He thought we were full of shit about 1000 yard targets until he saw us do it. Then we gave him the rifle and he did it, seriously made his year. He had to tell all his old fart shooting buddies about hitting 1000 yards targets, he took videos so he could show them, as he said, they are not going to believe me.

Does anyone else get upset when your neighbors call the cops, every time you take your Quad Mini Gun set up to the back yard range?
You would think, 3 square miles of land would be enough to shoot on in peace, but they always seem to get upset.

You should see what I see on the pistol ranges

LOLOLOLLOLLLLLLLL

I remember going jack rabbit hunting out in the desert, 5 guys brought 12ga shotguns, I brought a .22lr with CCI Stingers and iron sights, they blasted away and got skunked, I got all the jacks. Every time they blasted the jacks took off and I got them on the run. The same thing with pigs, they brought long rifles, I brought a .44mag with a 6.5" barrel, while they shouldered and tried getting a cheek weld, I was taking them on the run. Moving targets don't wait for you to aim.

I'll be shooting tomorrow. I'll even post some pics😁😁😁😁

I shoot quick draw from the hip Bob Mundan style. Anything but a head shot on running rabbits doesn’t count. I’m 98% to date.

I shoot damn near every weekend at least. It reminds me im not as good as i want to be. This was a kyl match last weekend out to 1260y. Took 3rd with a br. Would have won but i slapped the damn trigger on my last target at 400y. I cant get enough of this shit

I recently gave up on teaching rimfire in my area to kids.
Lots of really good shooters upcoming in the younger generation.
Stopped cause the Parents suck.
They think they know all. I make them shoot against their kids after a short time of teaching them, and those kids whoop them.
"Too short of stock"
"Younger eyes"
"Not used to a little .22"
All the excuses you can think of.
I volunteered, I usually bought the buckets of bullets seeking no reimbursement. I set up and only ask for help to clean up, and keep bringing them back consistently.
I'd help again in the future, but until then I'll focus on my own kids shooting abilities.
20-35 year olds, nope. They're hopeless.
6-18 year olds- America is in good hands with a little mentoring.

Good job German. Keep the pulse pumping so that guy can pass it along as well.

Fishing, which I used to do a decent amount of, is the same way. I kayak fish, mainly for bass and pike, and I know I'm not great at it, but I am good at it. And once people find out, it's always "oh yea I love to fish. Yea I don't get out much, few times a year. It's just so...relaxing...you know? Sit in the sun, on the lake, couple beers..." And just immediately, we're not on the same wavelength. I fish an absolute minimum of 2 days a week, at least 12 hours on water. During COVID WFH I averaged 30 hours a week on the water, while working more than full time. And this shit is not relaxing, fixin to need me some blood pressure pills when I'm on the water.

Because I'm there to win. I'm there to catch fish. I'm out actively looking for and scheming for bites. I'm fishing like these bass are gonna pay my house note. I'm here to hook up with every fish in this place. If you've ever watched professional bass fishing, that's the style I fish but from a kayak. Heck, I've fished kayak bass fishing tournaments and done well.

Guy I used to chat with at work, every Monday he'd want to hear my fish tales. One day he ask me, "how often do you actually catch a fish?" I responded, "I'd say 75% of days". You could pick his jaw up off the floor.

And of course there are "those guys"; you know the guys. They "love to fish" but never actually get out and it's ALWAYS an excuse. My housemate is this guy. He's "an old Walleye fisherman from Ohio" so of course he's the expert, I mean just ask him! Every day he'd catch me going out, he'd always have a reason why I'm wasting my time.

Skies are too clear.
Skies aren't clear enough.
It's too hot.
It's too cold.
Too much wind.
Not enough wind.
Water too high, too much rain.
Doggone water just too low!

Every excuse in the book. In 4 years I seen him fish twice. And about 75% of those days, I come back with fish pics. I must have got lucky🙄

I fish in rain, hail, sleet, snow, 35 degrees, 100 degrees, 1 mph wind, 15 mph wind, water so low I don't even need a boat, water so high I can launch from the parking lot. And I've put the hammer down in all those conditions.

Success at fishing is no different than success at anything else. How bad do you want, and how hard are you willing to work. It's about finding solutions to problems.

I also like to lift weights and gym people love to quote Ronnie Coleman "Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder! Don't nobody wanna lift these heavy-ass weights."

But they leave off the most important part 🤔 "Shit, I do it though."

Or as world record holding powerlifter Stan Efferding has said, "fuck waiting for the platform, the real competition is in the gym."

Well, that's my rant....

I agree wholeheartedly. I shoot Rimfire PRS. I get very few days off, and 90% of those days I am at the range. People like to talk but they are are lazy and unfocused. They spoon with their computer or TV for hours a day to forget what a waste most of their life is.

Hint, they arent winning because they have 900 to practice. They are winning because they want it more.
It could be this. Or it could be that farm boys are generally pretty thrifty (farmers and ranchers). So a miss means a waste of a round. That miss also means that a yote, rat, or chuck got away and is going to be harder to hit the next time. More potential loss of money. Farmers and ranchers grow up with firearms and usually hunting, they usually have a head start.

Post of the week.
Nothing frustrates me more than hearing squad mates excuses for why they've been mid pack for years. All the excuses. Gear. Money. Time. Weather. Bad luck.
As someone that's pretty decent at my sport I can promise you, all the people beating you have had those same struggles. But they didn't let that stop them. Rather than make excuses, they stalked the winners and dissected every way that they beat the competition. They spent hours analyzing their match videos looking for the problems, not the highlight reel to post online. They spent hours at the range fine tuning small technique nuances that the mid packers can't be bothered with. When they can't be at the range they're burning those habits in dry firing in the basement. They're working OT to buy ammo, not vacations.
If you want it that's what it takes. It's fine if you don't want it that bad, just don't lie to yourself about it.

That was me in racing. No vacations and hours on the sim. Hiring a professional driver to coach me and another one to go over my data at the races to get everything out of me and the car. I literally racked up over $150,000.00 to win a regional championship. I am still paying that shit off today, but I fucking won.

That was me and shooting although I didn't rack up that amount. I was mostly sponsored through my work and it was to build skills to transfer to students. I did pay by racking up repetitive motion injuries.

I’m still just gonna blame being mediocre on bad eyes , crotch goblins , and a balls to the wall business.

Ya need money and time to do well.

I know plenty of farmers that are too cheap to actually become good. They are the box a year type.

Dropping a gopher bomb down the hole or opportunistically shooting one with a .22 @ 20yds out the tractor window is more likely than trying to hunt them.

That does not translate well at all to finishing top 10 at a match.

What it takes is dedication and drive. A guy has got to want it. Even then natural abilities may not allow the W.
