Russia is much older than the inception of Ukraine, therefore in a temporal sense Russia has more legitimacy than Ukraine. Ukraine was actually at some point half Poland and half Russia, so who's invented? That aside, if you insist on recognition of Ukraine with it's own culture and language ,then it's idiotic to not recognize Russia as being equally signifigant or sovereign.
