Frikkin Quaker State oil.
While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany I brought in my old, plain-jane Mercedes Benz 230 to the local dealer. After the service dept. rep, in a lab-type coat, inspected my car and documented EVERY dent, scratch, etc., plus recommended services and parts I would soon need. I opened the trunk and showed him the Quaker State oil and Fram filter I wanted them to use. I was told if I could afford a MB, even an old one, I should take proper care of it. He informed me they would not be performing the oil change if I insisted on using Quaker State oil.

"I'm issuing a citation for distracted driving." Returns to squad car containing...

  • Mobile and Portable Two-Way Radio
  • Laptop
  • Radar Gun
  • Electronic Ticketing
  • Automatic License Plate Reader
  • Video Camera
  • In-Vehicle Router
  • ...and a personal cellphone

Amen. Because texting is distracting, unlike a giant flashing electronic sign on the side of the road.

Yet for some reason she would later deny it?

"Two months shy of her 21st birthday, Arthur had to obtain her parents’ consent for her enlistment. Recommendations, physical exams, personality appraisals— enlistment was a lengthy process. The Women Reservists organization was so new that the Marine Corps hadn’t even created the necessary paperwork, and proceeded to enlist women using US Navy paperwork. On February 20, 1943, Bernice Frankel joined the ranks of the Marine Corps as Private Frankel.

Within Arthur’s OMPF we gain glimpses of her as a young woman. School transcripts show she was an average student who studied French and science. She played the piano and organ, enjoyed archery, and studied to become a clinical laboratory technician. For those of us who remember her best as the incisive Dorothy Zbornak on Golden Girls, Arthur’s Personality Appraisals read like those of her television character. Described as having a poised and trim appearance (and exhibiting “meticulous good taste”), Arthur was also considered to be ingratiating, frank, and open, though overly aggressive and argumentative. A special note on one assessment read: “Officious—but probably a good worker if she has her own way!” "

Don't forget that you could only get AM stations on the first transistor radios!

If anyone knows what these items are then we can be friends.

Dad made a 100 amp linear for his CB. Tried it once and the neighbor lady down the road called and wasn't happy when breaker breaker came through her TV during General Hospital.

This photo was taken in 1997, if you know who he is, you can be my friend. He was my friend when he operated out of Kansas City.

Well, you got me. I don't know. So I guess it's okay if you pretend that you don't know me if we pass on the street.

Just to show there's no hard feelings here's a video on the development of the proximity fuzes during WWII. The significance of this development is the miniaturization of the vacuum tubes and ensuring their survival of high G forces & rapid spin rates on the way to the target.

I had a friend growing up, who's dad was a big time electronics guy/ham operator. He had a linear, for his CB, in his car that would light up fluorescent lamps if you held them near the antenna.

All my power tubes are noctals or octals. For guitar amps it's hard to beat the RCA 6L6GC family of tubes. (y)

My 66 and 69 Super Reverbs run on RCA. My scratch-built single ended amp can take many noctal or octals interchangeably, but I generally run 6BQ5/EL84/SV83. Though a Silverface, the 69 came with the original Blackface circuit and wire routing (AB763 circuit). The last year you could find a Super Reverb with the Blackface circuit (which is relatively rare).

Just noticed that our little no-tits “shelter in place” Corner of the ‘Hide is just 3 pages away from being at 1000 pages.

Save some epic stuff for that day… it’s been 4 years in the making! And proves that funny stuff rocks!
