In Oregon pis fir is White Fir or Grand Fir. Abes Grandus. Tamarack is also called Western Larch. Larix occidntalis. It is a good timber log and is scaled and graded as Douglas fir. Pseudotsuga menziesi.

Little known fact (Unless you are an east sider living in the Ochocos or Malheur), Tamarack needles turn yellow and drop in the fall. My Favorite firewood on the eastside.
I have dogged in falling those and had them fucking gush water out all over my saw.

6 years with the USFS in Timber and Fire, and 4 years with CDF (now CalFire) most of it with a saw in my hands. Saw some really cool country and met some great people. But I have no want to hike the Pacific Crest Trail after working on it in multiple locations and states.
Funny that I medicalEd out of the Army, but the USFS kept me employed through college.
