Coup De Grâce, New Action from American Rifle Company, $899 WOW!

Start at 10 minutes 27 seconds to get full explanation. Start at 12 minutes 14 seconds for the specific AICS forward mag stop/Xylo explanation.

Apparently, this is a feature made very recently for the Xylos. Maybe since the CDG release?
Dunno, but the action was wrapped in brown paper. There was brown paper folded under the action for box padding. This was sitting under that. If ARC is listening, probably good to put this is a bigger bag and not in the bottom of the box.

Elusive Lefty is on its way.,.. Its kinda like the Abominable Snow Man... I will Believe it when I see it.
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS got the email from ARC my lefty is ready.......here's the kick in the nuts in the time it took to ship the ffl on file is moving to a new location and won't accept it

I’ve followed along with most of the thread and I don’t think anybody has mentioned this so far. I was planning a 7 PRC hunting build that would use Hawkins Hunter flush magazines. I assumed I would be able to modify the latch and/or magazine to work. Well, I received my LA .535 bolt face a few weeks ago and found that the mag well of the action of cut specifically for LA AI mags and is much too narrow for the Hawkins mags. There’s no way to make the Hawkins mags work without some substantial machine work on the action itself…

Just a heads up for anybody with similar plans. I have no interest in using long action AI mags on a hunting rig so I’m going a different direction.
I assume this would also be true of SA CDG’s w the Hawkins Hunter set up? To bad, I like that pretty much flush mag design for a hunting gun.

Edited for clarity: the same is not true for the SA CDG with Hawkins hunter. In a manners LRH it fits together seamlessly with no modification for the trigger hanger. The magazine itself was a tight (very) fit, but runs flawlessly. After a very slight filing of the mag catch is perfect. However, other AICS mags (full size, not Hawkins hunter) do not fit. I just threw together a 7 SAUM and it runs well. I’ll do a video when I get a chance

CDG, PVA osprey barrel 1:7, vision chassis, Schmidt, 6–36x56…

Unlike all of the other chassis the vision is the only one that did not require modification for my length of pull. Literally the most adjustable out of the box and required no additional purchases to get it to fit. (Compared to an MPA BA competition, centurion, MDT ACC premier, and MDT ACC elite… all of which requires significant modification to get to the same place as what comes out of a box with a vision.)

Who're you guys using for CF barrels? I see Straight Jacket Armory and Preferred Barrel Blanks offer CDG CF prefits, didn't know if there was a recommendation between them (or another company)

Need a little advice from those more experienced….

I bought the CDG a few days from when it hit the market. Bought a Xylo chassis as well. Ordered a 6.5CM barrel from PBB. I built it up a few weeks ago and recently received my Forster set of go no-go gauges. Bolt closes butter smooth on both gauges. For a brand new build, I’d rather not order a field gauge as a possible solution. FWIW, I torqued the barrel at 80 ft*lb.

With this being my first bolt action rifle, what would your next step be? Appreciate any advice.

<edit> resolved. PBB took good care of me.
Just to close the loop on this. PBB responded to a voicemail I left with them.
9/1/23 responded and generated shipping label.
9/8/23 barrel on the floor for work.
9/11/23 shipping notice.
9/14/23 received and mounted. All good.

I’m guessing they shaved off a few thousandths. Bolt closes easily in my go gauge. Bolt binds up on my nogo guage.

Now I get to go pew pew.

I've had good luck with my Carbon Six in 7 PRC. Shot sub moa breaking it in with factory Hornady but don't have very many rounds down field yet.

I've been lurking this thread nearly since its beginning so sorry if this has been addressed and I missed it..

What mag is best for this (long) action for someone looking to run 7PRC? I'm the biggest noob with respect to the rem 700 platform and bolt guns in general (this will be my first bolt gun build). The compatibility via ARC states "3.85 AICS". This is where i start to get confused as all the websites I've gone to might list the OAL of the mag but they tie a caliber to it as well that ISN'T the caliber I'm running.

As with all other things, im sure im overthinking this. Is it fine to just simply buy an AICS 3.85 OAL without caring what caliber is tied to the listing? To be honest, a link to the very mag(s) i need would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The mag length for a long action depends on your chassis & or bottom metal. Could be 3.715, 3.775, or 3.850.

Caliber does matter, you'll want 300 Win mag size or .535 bolt face (same as 7PRC). A Lapua 338 mag is for .585" bolt face & to big for 7PRC.

My suggestion for the closest out of the box with minimal (may need to widen the front of the feed lip a tad) but probably no tuning necessary is MDT's 300 PRC CIP length AICS. https://mdttac.com/300prc-mdt-metal-aics-magazine/ You can compare the two cartridges' case body dimensions below to see why.

When you want to use an AICS mag for a different caliber (than stated by manufacturer), you will likely have to "tune" the feed lips via bending (ideally with a magazine feed lip tool) in order to accommodate the different case body dimensions and have optimal feeding. The closer you can get out of the box to match the cartridge you desire (in your case 7 PRC), the less tuning required.

Also to emphasize the previous post, your chassis or bottom metal will dictate which length mag you can use. If your desired chassis doesn't allow for a 3.850 CIP mag, then ignore the suggestion. If your desired chassis have an adjustable fore/aft mag well, then you can pretty much use them all 3 sizes. 3.340" is the 7 PRC COAL max, so any of the long action AICS mags 3.715", 3.775", or 3.850" would generally work.

If the mag is too long relative to the chassis mag well, it won't go in. If it's too short, it won't stay latched in. One caveat to going with the longest mag is that the longer you go relative to max COAL, the more at risk you get for feed issues due to follower tilt with poorly tuned feed lips (and theoretically even with properly tuned feed lips) or feed issues due to the round releasing from the lips too early.

However, I'm almost certain someone has tried the 7 PRC with a 3.850 CIP length AICS with no problems.

That’s what I use with no issues in my MDT chassis.

For context it's a Xylo chassis. All the above was very helpful and just what I needed. Thanks, guys!

Now lets hope I can find somebody who will ship to the great free state of Washington...🙃

Have the MDT chassis required any fitting/mods? Probably gonna drop mine in an ESS unless the ACC Elite magically comes out in lefty long action soon

Worst case is you need a different latch, with my HNT I needed a shorter latch and MDT sent me all their sizes so I could pick the one that fit best.

I don't think I've seen it posted in here, MPA is using CDGs for their Elite actions in their in-house rifles now.
Where did you see that? I find it hard to believe since MPA and Curtis have been in bed together (probably literally) for a long time.

Sure looks like a CDG to me...

Sure does. Still don't think I'd roll the dice with them, or trust them to deliver on time. Says delivery is 10-12 weeks, but I wouldn't
look for it before 24-26 weeks.

I'm liking the action a lot. One improvement I'd like is for the brass to eject at the 3 or 4 o'clock. I've lost more casings to the brass gods in 1 match than I have in multiple matches with other actions.

1750 Is a pretty good price with a cerakote barrel. wondering who makes the barrel for them

I’m pretty sure they use Spencer barrels mainly. I think on the least expensive PMR they use an X-caliber or did at one time.

I’ve tried:

- ACC Premier
- ACC Elite
- MPA BA Comp

All work without modification.

- Foundation Centurion requires slight relief for the bolt release and the ejection port is not long enough aesthetically.
