Not sure where you’re seeing that. In the last 15 yrs or so almost the entire trucking industry has gone to electronic logs, GPS tracking and limiters for insurance reasons. Outside of somewhere in NM or AZ the last time I drove I40 from Knoxville to Flagstaff on my way to PHX I can’t remember the last time I saw a trucker over the speed limit.

Years ago I was riding with my little brother and he refused to move TF over from the fast lane. He stacked up about 20 cars. I told him he needed to move. He said he was keeping everyone at the speed limit. I told him he was a douche. He said it was the law! I wondered why?
Couple years later SC passed the law where the left lane is for passing and it's illegal to hold up traffic. Sent a quick text to my dickhead bro. A great day. Only douchebags sleep in the fast lane.

I’m pretty close to that with a little less zen. Most of the other drivers are asses stressing over 30 seconds difference in arrival time. I run the speed limit to +5. I get better mileage that way. Leave early enough to get there and don’t stress.

One night I was in the left lane on the NJ Turnpike and this car came right up behind be flashing his beems, etc. This was back in my younger, "feistier" days, so I brake checked him slightly. Just a tap, nothing else. He persisted, continuing to flash. I brake checked him again, He persisted again. I did it once more and he still persisted. I said, OK, I'll pull over and let him pass and then I"ll get behind him and "brighten his day" a bit, myself! At least, that's what I thought.
As the car passed me, I got blinded by a really bright light coming from the side of the car. I couldn't see what was going on. I braked a bit but the car also braked with me to keep pace and keep that bright white light right in my face. And, then, I happened to notice some funny little letters on the car's front door. "T-R-O-O-P-E-R."
Thank God, he had somewhere to go, or I'm sure he'd have stopped me. So, after a few more seconds of shining his side light in my face to harrass me, he shut it down and took off in the left lane. Apparently, NJ Troopers think they own the left lane and chase anyone else out of it.
Moral of the story, pull over and let them pass. You don't want that person behind you where they can be truly dangerous. You want them ahead of you where you can keep an eye on them.

Texas law says we don't have to show our LTC, but I still do anyway. The officer instantly knows you're not a felon. Every time "Do you have your firearm with you?"
He can see both my hands and I point straight down at my waist and say "It is in a holster right there."

I was leaving my farm years ago (before I lived on it). A trooper pulled me over for a tail light out on my trailer. That same pistol conversation occurred. And then he said "Are you a LaRue Tactical fan?" I pointed at the LR-308 that was muzzle down, and leaning on the passenger seat. I said "that's just a DPMS, much more affordable than a LaRue. It does a fine job of killing hogs in the sounders." He said "I get it, nothing wrong with that. I'll be back with a warning."

Driving between Tucson and Phx you get the left lane doing 80( or more) getting bunched up behind someone passing a semi just a few mph faster than the semi. That leads to jackholes passing on the right and then jamming into the line in the left lane, making that line worse, which leads to people passing on the right and jamming in. Repeat till you get off the freeway
If we took my truck, I just slotted in behind one of the semis and life became much simpler.

Note: When an Officer ask you for ID you must then give them your Permit/License to Carry, if you are carrying at that time. If you don’t present it at that time you are in violation of Texas law. There is no penalty if you don’t inform them but as a law abiding citizen we must follow the law.
It is quite obvious this is a clip from one of those bs reality ride along shows. They look for any reason for a stop to watch drivers reactions to being stopped if they might hauling dope or illegals.
When did that come about ? When I got my Texas chl fifteen years ago the instructor, a brazoria county detective, said it wasn't required but it was recommended. I've tried to stay up on current laws but maybe I need to study up.
I always handed both id's over in the event I was stopped until a brazoria county deputy almost cleared leather on me when I answered his question as to whether or not I had a gun and where it was located. When I said yes, the dude freaked. Holster came unsnapped, half pulled then he proceeded to yelling at me to keep my hands where he could see them. All the wile, throughout the entire stop my wrists were on top of the steering wheel with my fingers spread as far as I could get them unless instructed to do otherwise. I don't volunteer information anymore.
This led to me sitting on the side of the road for an hour waiting to be on my way, eventually getting my gun returned to me, unloaded, ammo handed back to me loose (revolver) and a lecture about how he'd unloaded it for my safety as well as his own. It was at that point I lost it, gave a lecture of my own and was told "have a nice day" lol, and sent on my way.

The problem besides the obvious distraction/skillPrecisely. I've driven the Autobahn in Germany. I was doing 110mph (Mph not Kph) on the Autobahn. People were passing me. Speed is definitely not the problem. It's distracted driving, and what I like to call, "Impedaphobia..." the fear of being "stuck in the pack" of traffic and not "out in front," leading the pack. People will do stupid and dangerous things to get out in front and not let people pass them, etc. etc.
Also, when driving the Autobahn, remember that diesel trucks drive the same speed no matter where they are in the world (50-60 mph). You have to be careful when rounding corners at top Autobahn speeds because you might come upon a truck and have to dart over into the passing lane real quick to get around it.
is the speed differential between exits and entrances. In the middle of the country where roads were build with space and proper planning increased speeds are a possibility.
In any heavy populated area (new York, Philly, etc) that has mixed use roads (commercial and non commercial) the exits and entrances do not supply ample room for acceleration and braking zones, before weather and road conditions cause issues.
The grand central parkway was created with a design speed of 45-50 mph. That is one of main roads out of Manhattan. The population centers grew around it closing it in. Approx 160k cars use that road every day. Braking /acceleration zones for exits are prob 2 maybe 3 car length long at best.
Additionally the roads which exits lead to are taken into account. If at the end of a exit ramp there is a heavy travel road with stop lights speeds need to be even lower.
The differential of traffic speed is too much..even if there is not traffic…which is never lol.
Then add in all the states that do not require inspections. In other countries vehicle inspections are mandatory. In the US I think only 15-20 states require them.
While most people may care for their car, we all know 90% of people don’t.
Limiting the max speed, limits a shit box from doing 100 with shot brakes and bald tires which aren’t even speed rated for 100.

I used to get pulled over quite often for speeding. Still do but less now.
Somewhere about 8 or 9 out of 10 times I get pulled over I don't get a ticket, just a warning. Every time I get pulled over I'm asked if I'm armed, I say yes, they ask where it is, I say on my hip and they say leave it there then walk away, come back and say have a good day, sometimes try to keep the speed down.
One of those times I got pulled over for double digits over the limit I got asked about the gun and said it's in the car but not on me ... unloaded in the bag in the back because I haven't cleaned it from the range trip yesterday. He said "I see, just a sec" and walked back to the cruiser. When he got back the only thing he said to me was "It doesn't do any good if you don't have it on you.", handed me a ticket and walked away ... no have a good day ... no this is your court date ... nothing.

Old Cops in Texas DGAF. Many have told me there's not enough of them and they need good people armed.
I was friends with the Chief and a Lieutenant on Melissa PD. I had the Lt. print me for my first suppressor Form 4. He was going on about how cool that's going to be. Then asked if I have my (then) CHL. I said yes. He asked if I carried. I said I do, but I'm not carrying right now. He asked why not. I told him this is a damn Police station, I'm not carrying in here!
He looked me right in the eyes and said "bullshit, you carry that pistol everywhere you go".
I am reminded of the words of "Jock Ewing" when talking to Bobby after hearing him complain about not having the power to get something done on his own... power Bobby thought Jock had given him. This has to have been one of the very best lines coming from Jock, if not the best. He told him:
Agreed. I've always felt that "speed" should be governed by 3 factors.
First, how well is the road constructed? Is in an open area without a lot of entrances/exists, etc.? Does it turn and bank properly? How many lanes are there? Etc. Etc.? Second and of medium importance... how much traffic is on it? Because no matter how well the road is built, if there's too much traffic, the collision potential is much greater. Finally, the most important is "weather conditions." Because no mater how well the road is built or no matter how little traffic there is on it, bad weather can make you have an accident all by yourself.
I think speed limit signs should be "electronic," like they were on the NJ Turnpike such that the limits change if the conditions change.

It was a middle aged fat guy. Looked to be mid 40's. This was roughly 10 years ago. Up to that point they'd all been cool. Most of them just interested your particular flavor of chosen carry weapon.
I guess he still could have been new. Several people I know that have been through the academy have told me most of them are just regular people with no clue looking for a job.
I have no license or permit to hand over... seeing as how we are a constitutional carry state...
If they ask if I have a firearm I will gladly say "yes officer its on my right side" or "in the center console" or whatever, but I dont physically have any kind of license because its not needed.
Those are 1st deployment WestPac widows…..it takes up to three deployments for them to hit three hundo…..
