It's now official. JTAC Ranch closing

I'm independently retired... :ROFLMAO:I know, deservedly so, but I still had to bust on you!

Yeah, I buy stuff from Rick's all the time. Their blueberry brats are freaking awesome.

The Sunday JTAC opening and not telling anyone is how they kept the numbers low. They didn't want to be open. Add in the low number of shooters due to lack of ammo for most of them.
Buncha shit.

Now, I'm going to have to try those brats. I used to get a particular kind in Germany and the only place I found the same thing was online in Wisconsin and it's not cheap to get them down here.

While I liked the fact that this place was always self RO, I always marveled at how I never saw anybody doing any work there, but then again I've never been in management :D

My wife and I bought sandwiches/subs there one day when Smokin’ Joes was already closed. He came out himself and I watched him slice the beef fresh from a haunch and grill it up. Super yummy. I saw they had fresh Japanese Wago beef there for sale for more than my beer pocketbook can handle but less than what I see elsewhere.

I also watched him custom cut a big beautiful brisket for a customer.

They were more concerned with the run and gun stuff.
The mindset of a hit is a hit, vs where was the hit on the plate. They really didn't believe a small plate could be hit at 800+ yards with any consistency. We showed them it could and even let them use our rifles. It still didn't make any difference with regards to repainting.

The small swingers at 800 were taken down for a recent gas gun match. In their place is a 2x IPSC. Hits on that with a 30 BR and flat based 125gr bullets weren't even a challenge.
I'm going to see if they will let me swap back to a smaller pair on Thursday when I go back out there.

I repainted the mile, 1k and 800 while downrange this past Thursday.

We spent most of our time doing headshots on the 800 right side standard IPSC.
There was very little paint left after we got done.

It's still not as satisfying as a 4" swinger at the same distance

The thing with the small swinging plate is very nice if mirage kicks in and I can’t see my impact’s anymore. Very much appreciated Mike!

Ya the run and gun crowd dosent think targets exist past glock and red dot ar15 range which for them is about 300 yards At SWFL there are actual cement benches and real bench rest shooters shooting at 1000 yards +. Several have camera systems and some even have their own electronic target systems they put up at 1000 yards

Those target systems are really nice.
I would have bought one at the 2021 PRE, but I had fears of it being shot up by the general public.
Some people just like to shoot target stands, and not the targets.
Too damn expensive for that kind of idiocracy.

I think someone needs to invent a system that detects these fucks and instantly turns a one-way range into a two-way. Like a robocop hidden in the berm or bushes.

Maybe instead of just shooting the offender’s hat off, the system shoots their car, starting with the tires and working its way up to more expensive bits as the offense continues…hmmm

I don’t hit the regular 100-300 rifle range at our club often, but when I do, I see evidence of and active shot like this. There a some people, typically not the regulars, who don’t bring any targets and assume that there will be something for them to shoot at.

One day I had a bud and his 11 yo son with me and had the son dialed in on 100 yards with my .22. I had picked up and put out a ten inch plate with 4” center flapper for just this type of thing. Kids respond really well to the reactive targets after getting comfortable behind a rifle. As do we all, I think.

Anyway, this group of young people pull in and begin to pull out their ARs and stuff. Before I got a chance to go over and introduce myself and tell them that the steel was for .22 only (being only 3/16” AR400), one guy slams in a mag and blasts away at the steel with his AR. Thus denying it up pretty good. I asked for a cold range and went down and picked it up.

Yelling at someone for something that required common sense does little good. I did not get down there quickly enough. Point being that I then had to tell them that if they had no targets, I had some they could have. Gave them a choice and reminded them that next time they should bring their own targets. I’m way too easy.

As a new member, how do I go about locking in the old rate of $100/month? Who do I call? Or is it an email I need to send? The website shows the new monthly price of $150 kicking in at Sunday night 11:59:59pm.

What does it cost to just pay per visit to shoot 1000 and beyond? Thanx

I have no idea, but I suppose if you want the $100.00 rate, you'll have to sign up before midnight tonight.

you can call the range office and lock in the rate over the phone by tomorrow. Other wise the range is open fr sat and SUNDAY to the public for $20 an hour for the 1300 yard range. They have steel gongs every 100 yards out to 1300 and the range goes cold every 2 hours so you can drive down range in you truck and set up your own targets or paint the ones there or put out flashers etc.

I went out yesterday. The militia meeting was finishing up when I got there. That was actually nice as Open Path app wouldn't let me in the LR gate and they were kind enough to take their side by side down and open the gate for me.

A few of them scampered over to the 2000 with their carbines. I think the winner was the one with the loudest muzzle brake. Oh how they hooted when he blasted away and was rewarded with 3 dings in a row. I have no idea what range he was shooting at because he was minute of berm at 800.

They were so loud talking when none of them was shooting that I couldn't always hear my impacts. Most of their talk was how they're going to Ares. They seemed to be pre-qualifying at 400

The mirage was bad but at least I could see the wind. I couldn't see where I was hitting on the steel at 500 (?, forgot my LRF again) and 800. I could barely see the target you beat the paint off, lol. The giant blue man was still there though.

Well, mtherf$74747. This is horrible. jtac is a place I love to go. im one of those who just dropped a few thousand dollars on a new rifle setup and haven’t even tried it out yet. Blast it To hades!

I'm bumping the two threads about the closing. I received email today that they're trying to purchase land nearby and re-open.
I did as well. From what I understand this land backs up to the mining land, so housing shouldn't be an issue for a long time. Never got to shoot JTac and disappointed it clossing, but hopefully the next place will be quick to get up and running. In the meantime Mannatee just reopened their 1000 yard range.

I wish them the best. Hope it works out

Just so everyone knows. This will not be JTAC re-opening. This is a new range and different owners.
The JTAC owners will be providing assistance and experience to the crew putting the new range in operation. It will take some time to get permission, permits and all the other necessities taken care of.

Here's the email that went out today.

Way better? You mean it's better because you pay almost $2,000 a year for membership. I don't think so. Manatee is opening up the 1.000 yard range Dec 9th. And my membership is only $250 a year.
But keep in mind at Manatee you can shoot out to 500 and 600 with steel targets only at 1000 and nothing in between.

Would you post the URL for Manatee? thnx

It's not even $1k per year.
Or, was not.

Paying monthly was $85/month for everything, unlimited use.
Most of our crew skipped the run and gun stuff, so it was $65/mo.

It was less expensive to pay annually.

Not sure how that even comes close to $2k.

Manatee is a nice range, but didn't allow the freedoms allowed at JTAC.

The precision membership is only $65 a month which equals $780 a year for unlimited use out to 2000 yards and JTAC had a better setup. To shoot Manatee's 1000 range is $20.83 a month plus $12 per day

J-TAC is what all other Florida ranges, including Manatee, should be.

I shoulda joined a while ago and I’m gonna be fully in with the new range when it’s up.

Different strokes for different folks. No doubt that Manatee meets the needs of many, but for my money, JTAC beats Manatee by a whole lot.

I’m hoping I get to meet the great Lash at the new J-TAC in the near future 😏
🤣🤣🤣
I’m actually just a Melvin Milktoast masquerading as a real person on the interwebs, but please do come and shoot one of my matches at Volusia. Next one is Dec 2nd, the Cold Turkey Match.

You’ll have a good time at a small local match with some good people. 👍🏻

Are they 22 only or can I bring my AI?

We also run centerfire PRS matches there and I often assist and shoot them, but my matches are specifically for .22. Centerfire just had their last match of the year this past Saturday. New schedules to come out soon.
I have a poors 22 but I can always come out and get humbled.

It’s for fun and camaraderie anyway. As long as you have a scope and a ten round mag, get some fair ammo and get to it. 😁
I may try to come down to shoot that match if i can get stuff squared away here with work and other things. Hopefully it has dried out a bit since the prs match. Man it was wet getting to the range

It was close to, if not just as wet for the September .22 match. It rained 10” that week and also rained that day. Good times

Too much. Ill stick to Manatee.
