Once years ago . I had a pretty good crash on the moto track 1/2 mile from our house. I had a string of injuries and crashes leading up to this. I got one of my friends to start the bike and I painfully got on and putted it home.
Got the bike in the garage and climbed off and put the triangle in the rear axle. I then decided to have a little
lay down on the nice cool concrete. The wife walks out and sees' me laying on the ground.
She ask's , what happened? I tell her about the crash and tell her I think. I'm done. I'm tired of being hurt and I'm tired of spending dollars fixing the bike! I ask her to please get me a beer. She does.
Then, she said to me. Ok. so you quit riding. Then what are you going to do? Your friends all ride. Your going to
be bored . Your going to be unhappy. When your friends are riding or racing and your not.
Riding makes you happy! You will feel different. About this in a couple of days.
She was right of course! I kept riding and racing for another 10 years after that crash. I miss motocross.
She has righted my course a few times over 30 plus years. When I have lost my focus or been feeling sorry for myself. We all need a good talking to. Once in a while.

The Coast Guard air station in San Diego is across the street from the airport because when the air station was built the USCG was flying HU-16 amphibians and needed to be on the waterfront to have a ramp into the bay. The first time my cutter stopped in SD I didn’t know any of this and we were driving by the airport and a light turned red at a reeeeeally wide intersection and gates opened at the airport and air station and a C-130 taxied ACROSS THE FUCKING STREET in front of us! So glad to see Vinny honored and respected here. He passed away just before our last 101st Airborne reunion. He was deeply loved and truly a page of living history. He will be missed.
