As someone who deals with this in my profession every day, please give DIRECTLY to your local shelter if you want to help (and they REALLY need it). If you think ASPCA is bad, look up Humane Society US. I absolutely despise these commercials, because as you say, they are actually diverting funds AWAY from the thing that people who want to help think they are giving to. Moved over to CBS website. Actually did a search of the fund utilization of the ASPCA after hearing their gut wrenching, tear jerking, we gotta do this now to save the poor, starving, freezing little puppies and kittens commercial.
Found that actually, even according to CBS who published this report, that apparently. as one might suspect, not every last penny is going to help those poor star….well you know the rest.
Actually the CEO only earns $840,000.00 per year. Of the 19 bucks a month we just have to donate to save those poor, freezing, starving Pups and Kittens, less than half ($7.78) goes to the animals, while the majority winds up in fund raising and ‘education’ and other costs. Also, they are building up a huge surplus for ‘emergencies.’
What is really wrong with all this. The bulk of the local animal shelters get nothing from this money raising organization and suffer because the ASPCA takes much of their potential funding sources.
Please, please give and give more, the CEO needs to finish up his third vacation home on Nantucket, next to his buddy, obama.
