Later this week I hope to get up to Sturgis to LRI and let Chad examine the AT bolt and action to see if something can be done about an aftermarket solution for alternative bolt face sizes that don’t rely on having a spare bolt assembly to convert.
The project might be impractical or excessively pricey, Chad will have to make that call. My inclination is to see if a one piece bolt body/bolt head can be made that simply needs an existing firing pin assembly to plug into it and run. I’m lazy and don’t want to screw with roll pins and extractor springs any time I want to change bolt face sizes.
Since I’m not an AI expert I don’t know if I’m pissing up a rope here, and I’m curious what you guys think? If you were buying such a thing would you rather have a bolt head to swap after disassembling your existing bolt, or a complete assembly needing only your existing firing pin?
I haven’t gotten any further than an initial discussion with Chad, but he’s in business to make money so my guess is making a one off project like this isn’t in the cards unless there’s a wider market to sell “X” amount of them to justify setting up a machine.
What say you gentlemen?
