I’ve been thinking of doing this. Gotta cut the skins, though, and the monopod is not as smooth as the one above (very minor issue for a 500yd dude like me lol).
Does anyone know what drove the redesign of the AT thumbhole rear end? The old design seems like it would handle rear bags better.
I’ve theorized in my head that the larger cutout was to facilitate using the support hand to grab the butt to both control the rifle’s direction better and to make it easier to pull it into the shoulder.
I’m thinking a bunch of scenarios were shooting without a rear bag in improvised positions, off windowsills, etc, where grabbing the butt was more important than ease of use with a rear bag.
